Arrogantus, Serji-X![]()
![]() From the Expanded UniverseOnce a professional swoop pilot in the Swo-O'Rim racing circuit based out of Caprioril, Serji-X Arrogantus' aggressiveness and outspoken nature earned him many rivals in the twilight years of the Old Republic. He earned the moniker "Arrogant One" due to his flagrant disregard for the hazard of the sport and what few rules governed the races.Fates often turn quickly in the cutthroat world of swoop-racing, and after a stint in the limelight, Serji-X was outpaced by Hodrix, a well-funded Dug from Malastare. Hodrix was able to lure Serji-X's weary backers to his camp, leaving Arrogantus to fend for himself. Attempting a foolhardy stunt to salvage his fading reputation, Arrogantus took a nasty spill and was forced into retirement. He gravitated to the Outer Rim, where he eventually began racing with outlaw swoop gangs. Serji-X Arrogantus came to be the leader of the Cloud-Riders, a marauding gang of skyspeeder-riding thieves that operated on Aduba-3. Under his command, the Cloud-Riders harassed and extorted goods from a small farming community on Aduba-3, Onacra, on a yearly basis. Tired of his depredations, which sometimes including the stealing of farm women, the villagers struck back by enlisting the aid of a hired protector. They offered meager payment to a down-on-his-luck spacer, Han Solo, who in turn hired the services of a posse of protectors to deal with Serji-X and his bandits. Han Solo arrived with his group of so-called star-hoppers: Amaiza, former den-mother of the Black Hole Gang; Jaxxon, a Lepus Carnivorus; Hedji, a quill-throwing Spiner; the delusional "Jedi Knight" Don-Wan Kihotay; and two locals, Jimm the Starkiller Kid and his droid FE-9Q. One of Arrogantus' newest gang members, a green-skinned thug named Warto who had a grudge against Solo, tipped Serji-X off about Solo's band of protectors. Serji-X led his crew in an attack against the village, which resulted in a fire-fight between the Cloud-Riders and the star-hoppers. Into the thick of this chaos stepped an elderly village shaman known as the Old One, who claimed to be able to summon a great beast from the depths below Aduba-3's surface. Serji-X had long heard such claims, but paid it no mind. An enormous energy-spewing behemoth from below emerged from the caverns, and ran amok into the midst of the battle. Both Serji-X and the Old One were killed when the beast stomped on both of them in a single step. Serji-X was a tan-skinned human male with black hair and a thick black mustache. He wore a brown leather flight jacket and had a set of green-lensed racing goggles. He was nicknamed the Arrogant One, and despite his cruel and uncouth ways, actually fancied himself as a lady's man. Though he kidnapped the beautiful villager Merri Shen, he did not plan to force himself upon her, but thought, rather arrogantly, that he could seduce her with his wiles. Behind the ScenesSerji-X first appeared in "Eight for Aduba-3" Star Wars #8 (1978, Marvel Comics), the start of a Seven Samurai-inspired adventure that saw Han Solo protecting a farming village from maurading bandits. Writer Roy Thomas named the character as a nod to comics legend Sergio Aragones.Arrogantus died in "Behemoth from the World Below" Star Wars #10 (1978, Marvel Comics). Like much of the early Marvel material, Arrogantus went untouched by the larger Expanded Universe for decades, until he was profiled in 2001 in Star Wars Gamer #4 by Wizards of the Coast.
