From the Expanded Universe

Leektar had been trying to live up to the standards set by his brother Keoulkeech since they both were Woklings living in Red Bush Grove, several days' travel south of the Bright Tree Village that would later figure prominently in the Battle of Endor. The elder brother Keoulkeech had demonstrated an affinity for the natural world that Leektar lacked, having a mastery of medicines and animals that saved the grove time and again. Even Leektar's soul tree grew in the shadow of his older brother's.

Leektar struggled to prove himself, but rather than find his own strengths he would constantly try to compete in the fields that his brother excelled in. His foolhardy attempts to prove himself risked his life on occasion. It was not until he met his love, Chesea, that he finally left this destructive path. She convinced him there were more important things in life. But even as a loving husband and devoted father of three Woklings, Leektar secretly yearned for greater status in the tribe.

In a private, selfish moment, he even quietly prayed for this upon a plant reputed to be imbued with the power to fulfill wishes by the Leaf Queen, an Ewok deity. In a cruel twist of fate, the wish came true. A horrible fire sparked by lightning wiped out Red Bush Grove. Leektar appeared to be its sole survivor. Finding the charred remains of Keoulkeech's hut, Leektar adopted the mantle of shaman to say the last rites of the Ewoks who perished, and to consecrate the ashes of the charred soul trees. He felt responsible for the blaze and tried to atone for the destruction he had unwittingly unleashed.

The lonely Ewok set out on a journey to find another village. He hiked along the Yarlubb river, deeper through unfamiliar forests, foraging on small game and sleeping within the trees to avoid the nighttime predators.

During his treks, Leektar discovered the presence of offworlders encased in modern armor and equipped with weaponry the likes he had never seen. Though Leektar knew nothing of the Galactic Civil War, he recognized the threat of the Empire. He carefully observed the Imperials, noting their numbers, their strengths, and the strengths of the strange objects, vehicles, and implements they brought to Endor.

He also observed when an Ewok scouting expedition crossed paths with offworlders. The stormtroopers opened fire and chased the Ewoks into the woods. Leektar came to the aid of his fellow Ewoks with several well placed shots from his bow. It was his efforts that allowed the scouts to escape. Relieved to be back in the company of his fellow Ewoks, Leektar followed the scouts back to Bright Tree Village.

He told his sad tale to Chief Chirpa, Logray and the other elders of Bright Tree. For Leektar's selfless acts and experience in dealing with the offworlders, Chief Chirpa gave Leektar the seldom-heard title of Honorary Elder. His counsel was valued by Chirpa, and his insights served the Ewoks well in the Battle of Endor.

After the defeat of the Imperials, which opened up the forests to friendly offworld visitors and helped unite the scattered Ewok communities, Leektar found Keoulkeech alive and well. Keoulkeech had survived the blaze and the Imperial occupation, and had devoted himself to healing the forests sullied by their dark presence.
