Frix, Grizz![]()
![]() From the Expanded UniverseLike Luke Skywalker and Keyan Farlander, Grizz Frix was one of the many young pilots swept up by the passionate idealism that motivated people to join the nascent Rebellion. While the dream of a liberated galaxy came to be realized by those early heroes of the Alliance, Frix represents a sourer, sadder tale of the initial struggles against the Empire.Grizz was born on Devaron, in the fringes of a poor town where the neighborhoods faded from those settled by outlander immigrants to those home to Devaronian natives. Looked down upon by both locals (for being human) and outlanders (for living amongst aliens), he wished for a more tolerant and inclusive society -- something unthinkable under Imperial rule. His only escape came from piloting a dilapidated airspeeder which allowed him to achieve altitudes high enough that the town's disparate populations melded together into a uniform blur. Inspired by bootleg copies of Mon Mothma's A Call To Reason and the Declaration of Rebellion, Frix joined the Alliance as a pilot, impressing a Sullustan recruiter who had eyed his natural piloting abilities from one of the larger ports. Thanks to his experience and enthusiasm, Frix excelled at training aboard the Mon Calamari star cruiser Independence. So prodigious was his talent, he was considered a shoe-in for a position in Rogue Squadron if his skills had continued to grow. Unfortunately, Frix's career spiraled following a terrible collision involving another starfighter during a training mission over Gerrard V. Despite his own claims to the contrary, Alliance Command felt Grizz was unable to return to an active fighter squadron. Extensive bacta treatment may have repaired his body, but couldn't heal the psychological scars that he sustained during that dark spell. Withdrawn from the active roster of fighter pilots, Frix nonetheless heard tales of the valiant exploits of other hotshot pilots, whether rescuing princesses or dueling in the skies. Grizz instead was assigned to the Alliance's Support Services, escorting fertilizer barges and refugee supplies to Alliance safeworlds. The young idealist disappeared under a tough skin of cynicism. But as the Rebellion's fight came to a crescendo at Endor, the Alliance was desperate for pilots. Still having the raw piloting ability that got him off Devaron, Grizz was able to return behind the stick of an X-wing. During the brush up maneuvers with the fleet prior to the Battle of Endor, his enthusiasm began to return, particularly when offering advice to some of the younger, more exuberant pilots Grizz's happiness was short-lived as he lost his life at Endor. During a daring attack against a Star Destroyer in the thick of the battle, his fighter was caught in an explosion and he was killed. This entry was developed by Hyperspace member "Kast Morben".
