Pantorans are blue-skinned humanoids that inhabit the moon of Panotora in the Pantoran system. They were featured in "Trespass," a first season episode of
The Clone Wars written by Steven Melching and directed by Brian Kalin O'Connell.
The Pantoran system is part of the Galactic Republic with full Senatorial representation on Coruscant. It is an influential world, able to request and receive a Republic outpost within its system as a measure of protection against the Separatists during the Clone Wars. Pantora has a democratically elected government, presided over by the Pantoran Assembly and in turn led by the Chairman. During the Clone Wars, the hawkish and manipulative Chi Cho was elected chairman with promises of protecting Pantora from any and all threats. The moon's Senatorial representative at the time was young Riyo Chuchi.
The moon of Pantora was thought to be the only inhabited world in the system. It orbits an inhospitable ice world named Orto Plutonia, which was a protectorate of the Pantorans. When a society of Talz was discovered on Orto Plutonia, the ice planet was granted sovereignty -- though Chairman Cho fiercely opposed the measure and started a war with the Talz. Senator Chuchi intervened, at the behest of the Pantoran Assembly. In respect of the Talz's wishes to be left alone, she recalled the Pantoran and Republic presence from the ice world and returned to Pantora.
It is not yet known if and how these blue-skinned people may be related to other blue-skinned humanoids from the
Star Wars Expanded Universe, such as the Wroonians or (less likely), the Chiss. The design of the Pantoran was based on an Iain McCaig concept illustration of a blue-skinned Senator created for Episode I. Presumably, the Pantoran people are resistant to cold weather extremes, since the wardrobe worn by Chairman Cho and Senator Chuchi looks considerably lighter than the heavy winter gear worn by the Jedi in "Trespass."
