From the Movies
One of several Quarren politicians in the Galactic Senate representing scattered enclaves from his watery homeworld, Tikkes felt that the established rule of the Republic was due for a change. His controversial views caused him to side with Separatist forces that threatened to split the Republic.
From the Expanded Universe
Formerly an entrepreneur, Tikkes left the business world in favor of the political arena, where he found he could make a much more comfortable living. His suckered hands dug deeply into pools of corruption and graft. He turned on his fellow businessbeings, siphoning profits into his own political campaign. When his partners found this out, they attempted to kill him by hiring bounty hunter Aurra Sing. The Jedi were able to save Tikkes' life.
Behind the Scenes
Tikkes' character wears robes identical to those of the Quarren glimpsed in Jabba's Palace, in
Return of the Jedi. In fact, during the development of the
Attack of the Clones script, early drafts referred to the separatist Quarren senator as "Tessek," the Expanded Universe name of
Jedi's squid-head character. Subsequent rewrites identified the character as Tikkes.
