Salporin![]()
![]() From the MoviesKashyyyk is one of the many battlegrounds of the Clone Wars. As Separatist forces attack a lagoon-side village on the Wookiee world, the native armies team up with Republic clone troopers to defend their home soil. This mighty Wookiee warrior was seen protecting the beaches from the droid invaders. From the Expanded UniverseSalporin was master of the ryyk blade, exhibiting total control over the wickedly curved Wookiee knives. He was a childhood friend of Chewbacca, but when Chewie caught the wanderlust that led him off Kashyyyk to explore the galaxy, Salporin stayed behind. His martial talents brought him to the coastal city of Kachirho on the Wawaatt Archipelago. There, he worked as a hunter and craftsman, using his blade-mastery in both professions. While in Kachirho, he fell in love with a Wookiee maiden named Gorrlyn. The two were planning a future together when the Clone Wars struck. Realizing that Kachirho was to be targeted by the Separatists, Salporin and Gorrlyn volunteered together to protect the city. They served under the command of Captain Merumeru in the battle that followed. Salporin survived the Clone Wars, but when the Empire seized Kashyyyk and began enslaving the Wookiees, he was taken captive. For years, he served as a slave. He was eventually freed by Alliance commandos on a mission to liberate Kashyyyk. Salporin returned to the simple life of a civilian. Five years after the Battle of Endor, Salporin offered his home for Princess Leia Organa Solo to stay while she was on the run from agents of the Empire. When Noghri commandos attacked the home, Salporin was killed defending the princess. Behind the ScenesSalporin was played by David Stiff, who played multiple practical Wookiee roles digitally replicated to fill out the Kashyyyk scenes. The name comes from the 1991 Heir to the Empire novel, which includes several scenes set on Kashyyyk. Keywords: Databank - Expanded Universe, Databank - Episode III Filed under: Vault, Character
