A battle-weary but capable commander, General Rieekan was the Rebel officer in charge of Echo Base on Hoth. Rieekan had to make the difficult decision of evacuating the base that the men and women under his command had worked so hard to build. Most of the evacuation transports were able to escape Imperial pursuit and regroup elsewhere, ensuring the Rebellion's survival.
From the Expanded Universe
Rieekan was born on Alderaan. Early in the Galactic Civil War, he was put in charge of covert operations in and around the Alderaan system. Rieekan was off-planet, inspecting a new satellite transmission system in far orbit around the planet Delaya when the Death Star obliterated his home.
Rieekan later served the Alliance as a line officer. He served with Bren Derlin at Nentan. He then successfully defended an evacuation at the Battle of Tiems. He also oversaw the Alliance retreat from Dankayo base, and the destruction of the Imperial transport Elusive, which carried important intelligence that, if in Imperial hands, jeopardized Alliance operations in three sectors.
When Imperial commando Crix Madine defected to the Alliance, it was Rieekan's backing that helped him secure a position in Mon Mothma's Advisory Council.
A career military man since the age of 17, Rieekan entered into the world of politics when the New Republic took control of the galaxy. He served the New Republic as Minister of State. During the Black Fleet crisis, Rieekan was New Republic Intelligence director.
