A tough competitor, the amphibious Elan Mak was one of the contestants in the Boonta Eve Classic that saw Anakin Skywalker win his freedom. Mak began the race from the fourth row of the starting grid. He piloted a unique Podracer with bulbous engines and an ovoid cockpit.
From the Expanded Universe
Elan Mak is the less-than-clever alias of Kam Nale, an amphibian native of Ploo IV. His father, a Fluggrian crime lord, died at the hands of assassin Aldar Beedo. Kam has been hunting Beedo ever since. When he learned that Beedo was entering the Boonta Eve Podrace, Kam scrounged together what truguts who could and purchased an outdated KRT 410C Podracer. He had the skill to pilot it, and managed to finish fifth in the Boonta, where other more seasoned pilots failed to finish at all.
Behind the Scenes
Though not seen in the theatrical release of
The Phantom Menace (not outside his Podracer, anyway), Elan Mak is afforded a close-up in new effects footage created specifically for the Episode I DVD.
