BesGas Three![]()
![]() From the Expanded UniverseNewly built at the time of the Clone Wars, the BesGas Three tibanna refinery was thought to have been destroyed when the Confederacy attacked Bespin. Commerce Guild warships systemically neutralized independently operated harvesting platforms in an effort to commandeer the facilities for Separatist use. In truth, the automated refinery disappeared from all data registries, and also vanished from the skies, as an unlikely group of labor and support droids hijacked the station, and hid it in the denser, lower altitudes of Bespin's endless skies.Unusually independent and intelligent for droids of their make, this community of mechanicals feared that anti-droid sentiment, fueled by ruthless armies of the Confederacy, was taking over the galaxy. They surmised that if the Republic won the war, all droids would probably be outlawed. Thus, they decided to use BesGas Three as a refuge, taking it into the lowest part of the Life Zone. For nearly two and a half decades, BesGas Three remained hidden. The droids lived there peacefully, finding purpose in modifying and improving the efficiencies of the automated station. The increased pressures of the lower Life Zone meant the droids had to make constant repairs to their home in order to keep it floating. They knew not of the changes taking place throughout the galaxy, for any contact with the outside world would risk exposing themselves. All of that changed just prior to the Battle of Hoth. Fleeing a droid revolt on Cloud City engineered by the sadistic EV-9D9, an LE-series repair droid nick-named "Spanner" stole a cloud car and headed for safety at Tibannopolis. By chance, he discovered BesGas Three along the way. The labour droids were kind enough to offer Spanner shelter. Upon hearing his tale, they realized their predictions had been in error -- the Confederacy had lost, yet droids were still widespread. They decided to risk re-contacting Cloud City. This required bringing the refinery into close proximity to the city, as the communications equipment they had was of limited range. The timing of this return could not have been worse. Shortly afterwards, the Empire took control of Bespin and all its refineries. The long-dormant BesGas Three was once again refining gas, this time under the Imperial banner. The peaceful labor droid community was subsumed into the Imperial droid pools, presumably mind-wiped and reassigned to duty elsewhere. BesGas Three has remained in operation for decades since. During the Dark Nest crisis, Jaina Solo and Zekk searched BesGas Three as part of their investigation of suspicious Tibanna gas siphoning from refineries in the area.
