From the Movies

Wald was one of Anakin's playmates in the Mos Espa Slave Quarters. He and Kitster, along with the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO, formed Anakin's pit team at the Boonta Eve Classic Podrace. At the time, Wald was six years old.

From the Expanded Universe

A six-year-old slave is not likely to find many role models in the rough and tumble quarters of Mos Espa. Childish vandalism labeling Watto a "dirty ol' bird" has been attributed to Wald. The young Rodian also had a knack for picking up peggats from purses left carelessly unguarded. Despite such petty thievery, Wald was not greedy. He'd split his "earnings" with his friends, and they'd share a tasty ruby bliel at the Blue Brubb together.

Behind the Scenes

Wald was played by Warwick Davis, who has filled numerous roles in the Star Wars saga. Davis first played Wicket in Return of the Jedi and the two Ewok television movies. In Episode I, aside from Wald, he also played a human named Weazel who sat beside Watto during the Podrace, a grimy human on the outskirts of Mos Espa, and Yoda during Chancellor Palpatine's arrival on Naboo.
