Ongoing Throughout the Convention

The massive Star Wars Pavilion at Comic-Con celebrates the best of "a galaxy far, far away." Located at the front of Hall D, the Star Wars Pavilion is once again the biggest on the Exhibit Hall floor, featuring Lucasfilm's signature video walls, LucasArts video games, and a unique opportunity for fans to contribute to Lucasfilm's own historical archive -- the Star Wars Stories Project (see below). Enjoy Star Wars displays and shopping from Lucasfilm licensees, including the Force Trainer from Uncle Milton Industries; prop and costume replicas from eFX and Museum Replicas; collectibles and fun from Comic Images, Hallmark, and Creative Imagination Scrapbooking; books from Del Rey, DK, Penguin, and Palace Press; and autographs from stars of The Clone Wars animated series at Official Pix. Star Wars Stories Project (Star Wars Pavilion; Hall D)
2009's Comic-Con International also marks another Lucasfilm milestone -- the launch of the all-new Star Wars Stories Project. Fans of the Saga will have the unique opportunity to become a part of the Star Wars universe by contributing to Lucasfilm's own historical archive. Soliciting movie memories and nostalgia, the Star Wars Stories Project invites fans to share their own tales of fandom through video testimonials. Members of The Official Star Wars Fan Club and their guests attending San Diego Comic-Con International are invited to attend a very special breakfast. Fans who attend will meet and get an autograph from the very talented voice actor James Arnold Taylor (the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: The Clone Wars) in a casual setting. The breakfast, hosted again by Mary Franklin, Lucasfilm events manager and Bantha Tracks editor, will include remarks and Q&A with Dave Filoni, the supervising director of The Clone Wars; Steve Sansweet, LFL head of fan relations; and Derryl DePriest, Hasbro Star Wars marketing manager. Tom Hodges attended the Art Institute of Philadelphia, where he majored in computer/traditional animation. He left for the West Coast and took film classes in San Francisco, then worked for a few years doing freelance artwork before he was picked up as a regular working on licensed artwork for Lucasfilm. He is currently finishing up work on a graphic novel for Platinum Studios, Secret Identities, written by Marv Wolfman. Hodges is the creator of a three-issue miniseries, M. Top that off with random work for Star Wars Insider, daily webstrips for Lucasfilm, and other work, and Tom is a very busy artist. He will present information on working on daily comics in a web environment.

Joe Corroney has been providing Lucasfilm with official Star Wars artwork for related books, games, trading cards, and magazines since 1997, including penciling Star Wars: Empire for Dark Horse Comics. Other comic books he's illustrated include Crimson Dynamo for Marvel Comics and G.I. Joe, Fallen Angel, 24: Nightfall, Angel, and Spike Vs. Dracula for IDW. Currently, he's providing cover art for IDW's new Star Trek series and BOOM! Studios' new Farscape comic books, developing his creator-owned comic book series Death Avenger, and continuing to create new Star Wars artwork for Lucasfilm. For ten years he was the instructor for the comic book illustration course at the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio, and has also taught at Ohio State University. His how-to session will include an introduction to the comic book illustration process.

Allison Sohn has been working the past few years as a trading and sketchcard artist. Her works include characters from Star Wars, Indiana Jones, The Lord of the Rings, X-Men, and various other comic book properties. A classically trained artist and graphic designer, Allison works primarily with Copic Markers for her printed works as well as her sketchcards. She will discuss working in the sketchcard trade as well as her perspective on working with movie and superhero projects.

Benton Jew is a storyboard/concept illustrator and comic book artist from Los Angeles. He began his career in film at George Lucas's Industrial Light & Magic, where he provided artwork on The Mask, The Mummy, and Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. He has also done some comic book work and has recently contributed art to Secret Identities: The Asian-American Superhero Anthology, Rob Hanes Adventures and Marvel's Agents of Atlas and Hulk Family. Benton will present more information on the creative process from storyboarding on major motion pictures to independent publishing.
