June 08, 2000

[ Two Saturns for Episode I ]The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films honored Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace with two Saturn awards at its annual presentation in Century City on June 6, in the categories of Best Costume and Best Special Effects.

Costume Designer Trish Biggar was awarded for the elaborate and stunning wardrobe worn by the heroes and villains of the saga -- from Darth Maul's dark functional robes to Queen Amidala's intricate gowns.

Visual effects supervisors Rob Coleman, John Knoll, Dennis Muren, and Scott Squires received awards for The Phantom Menace's thousands of amazing effects shots. "It's a real thrill to be recognized for the work. It's the labor of hundreds of men and women at ILM for close to two years to produce those worlds and those characters," says Coleman, Animation Director for The Phantom Menace.

The Saturn Awards have recognized excellence in genre film and television for the past 26 years.
