Lucasfilm is working with Sony Music to produce an Episode I music video, a first for the Star Wars saga. John Williams' evocative music was ideal to carry Star Wars to new frontiers, but to coalesce the symphonic score into a music single required the touch of the maestro himself. The piece, entitled "The Duel of the Fates", was composed and conducted by John Williams especially for this music video. Building on one of the more dramatic themes from his Episode I score, Williams has crafted a stand-alone sequence just over four minutes long that embodies the conflict between the light and the dark at the heart of the new Star Wars movie. The video is currently being edited at the Skywalker Ranch facilities, where feature footage from Episode I and footage from other sources are woven together to create a canvas upon which Williams' score can unfold. The music video is scheduled to debut on MTV in early May, but the single will fly on the airwaves of radio stations across the nation starting this week.
