Star Wars Comes Back to Burger King

Burger King Corporation has announced that Revenge of the Sith will be the center of its first global promotion surrounding a feature film. As part of the promotion, Burger King guests will get the chance to choose their own destinies, just as Anakin Skywalker makes his destiny-changing choice to become Darth Vader in Revenge of the Sith.

The six-week promotion, beginning in the United States on May 11, features special Star Wars Kids Meal toys and the Star Wars "Choose Your Destiny" scratch-and-win game. The game lets guests "Have it your way" with a choice of instant-win prizes. This marks the first time a Burger King game introduced in the United States will be offered internationally.

"Burger King helped usher in the Star Wars phenomenon when the first Star Wars movie was released back in 1977," said Russ Klein, chief marketing officer, BKC. "Now, it's only fitting for Burger King to commemorate this epic saga with a blockbuster promotion that pays tribute to Star Wars and its universe of unforgettable characters."

BKC has an almost 30-year history with Star Wars. The company was a promotional participant with Twentieth Century Fox for the release of the classic Star Wars Trilogy -- A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. For each film, BKC produced a series of popular collectible glasses still sought by collectors today.

"Burger King's enthusiastic support of Star Wars over the years has never failed to get our fans excited about the release of each new episode in the saga," said Jim Ward, vice president of marketing and distribution for Lucasfilm. "We're thrilled that Burger King is taking their support global to help ring in the Star Wars film that answers all the questions fans have been asking for almost 30 years."

In the United States, the Super Star Wars Collection will give fans the chance to collect 31 Star Wars toys spanning all six Star Wars movies, while the Star Wars Choose Your Destiny Game will let Burger King guests have a chance to win out-of-this-world prizes.

Using a hot new trend in toys that combines oversized heads with small bodies, the Super Star Wars Collection captures the magic of memorable Star Wars icons in five unique toy genres: pull-back vehicles that speed away, wind-up figures, water squirters, plush toys and image viewers with scenes from each Star Wars episode.

The Star Wars Choose Your Destiny Game makes Burger King the place to be for the galaxy's greatest summer fun, food and value. Through game pieces on specially marked cups and fry holders, guests have the chance to scratch and win a $1 million grand prize or have their choice of other prizes, including a $100,000 Sony Electronics shopping spree, Lincoln Navigator, LucasArts video game or various Burger King food prizes. Every game piece has a prize.

Coinciding with the international release of Star Wars Episode III, BKC will launch its largest international promotion ever, bringing the Star Wars saga to Burger King restaurants in more than 50 countries.

"Star Wars is a brand recognized by people of all ages from around the world and the global release of Revenge of the Sith on May 19 presented a unique opportunity for us to bring the thrill of Star Wars to Burger King restaurants worldwide," said Klein. "We're sure the promotion will create a lot of excitement among our customers."

Six action figures capturing the spirited personalities of such key Star Wars characters as Yoda, Chewbacca and C-3PO will be available at Burger King restaurants internationally, along with three unique character baseball caps and three collector cups.

Fans in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Spain will also have chances to win many prizes in the Star Wars Choose Your Destiny Game.
