Prior to its featured appearance in the series, Mapuzo is a world that was only given fleeting mention in the 1995 roleplaying game supplement Alliance Intelligence Reports, published by West End Games.

Obi-Wan finds evidence that fan-favorite Jedi Quinlan Vos survived Order 66. Quinlan first appeared in the Star Wars Republic series from Dark Horse Comics, and made the jump from the page to a mention by Kenobi in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. He then appeared in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series (Kenobi and Vos memorably teamed up in the Season 3 episode, “The Hunt for Ziro”) and would play a large role in the novel Star Wars: Dark Disciple.

There are also a variety of Jedi and Force phrase, axioms, and mantras on the walls, including the High Republic call of “For Life and Light” from the series of books set during the prime of the Jedi Order.

The oceanic headquarters of the Inquisitors was developed and extensively explored as a setting for the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order videogame released in 2019. Players of the game would have faced similar situations as Obi-Wan does in Part IV.

The crystals mined on Mapuzo are said to be vintrium, a valuable substance that has appeared in Star Wars roleplaying and video games of the past.

En route to Mapuzo, Obi-Wan sits in meditation and attempts to commune with his old master, Qui-Gon Jinn. But his thoughts turn to Anakin Skywalker, who he has just learned still lives. On Mustafar, Darth Vader commands the Third Sister to find Kenobi.

Reva visits the remaining Inquisitors. Though they bristle at her newfound authority and proximity to Darth Vader, she orders that they send out probes to mining systems.

They soon arrive at an Imperial checkpoint. With no other alternatives, Kenobi blasts a probe droid and engages the stormtroopers.

When it looks as though Obi-Wan and Leia have been captured, rescue comes -- from the commanding officer! But they're still in danger, as the Inquisitors have received a positive ID from the probe and alerted Lord Vader.

The Imperial -- Haja's contact -- takes them to a safehouse with a secret back passage. "Some call it 'The Path,'" she says, revealing an underground network that has shuttled Jedi and Force sensitives to safety.

The Imperial introduces herself as Tala and opens the door to a hidden tunnel. But Obi-Wan suddenly pauses, sensing something that causes him great pain. He looks outside to see a masked figure in black -- Darth Vader -- torturing and killing citizens through the power of the Force. Obi-Wan asks Tala to take Leia while he draws Vader away.

"What have you become?" Obi-Wan says, seeing his old Padawan in the mining dunes. "I am what you made me," Vader replies. The two duel, but Vader's power seems too much for his former master, and Kenobi flees. Meanwhile, Leia sends Tala back for Obi-Wan.

Vader finds Obi-Wan, hoisting him into the air and igniting a cache of minerals. The Sith Lord then draws Kenobi into the fire, taunting his old friend. "Your pain has just begun," he says. Before the Imperials can capture Kenobi, however, Tala and her droid NED-B save the former Jedi.

Leia reaches the end of the tunnel. Only instead of a pilot, she finds Reva waiting.
