    Kanan Jarrus / Caleb Dume

Not every Jedi perished in Order 66. Once known by the name Caleb Dume, Kanan Jarrus survived the Emperor’s purge, going underground for years and hiding the truth about who he really was. To keep his past a secret, Kanan carried a blaster -- an uncommon practice for a Jedi -- and used a lightsaber that had to be assembled. In the years leading up to the galactic civil war, he was a leader among the Ghost crew, a small group of rebels looking to strike back against the Empire, and with the emergence of the Force-sensitive Ezra, once again embraced his identity as a Jedi Knight.

History

Kanan Jarrus wielding a blaster

Caleb Dume was still a Padawan when he escaped Order 66, hiding his Jedi abilities and assuming the name Kanan Jarrus. He spent years doing odd jobs and developing a reputation as a hothead and a roughneck, with no purpose to his life. But that changed when he met Hera Syndulla. The two became close friends, and the leaders of a rebel cell opposing the Empire on the Outer Rim world of Lothal.

Kanan Jarrus wielding Ezra's lightsaber alongside his own

Kanan had never completed his Jedi training. While in hiding, he’d denied his Force abilities and battled his guilt over his inability to save his master. But that changed when he encountered a thieving orphan named Ezra Bridger, who possessed remarkable strength with the Force. Kanan decided to train Ezra as his Padawan, and in doing so began to embrace the Jedi heritage he had abandoned years before.

  • While Ezra faced his own trial in the depths of the temple, Kanan communed with Yoda, who warned him that this was a dangerous time for master and apprentice alike. Kanan promised his old teacher that he wouldn’t let Ezra lose focus the way he once had.

  • Revealed as a double agent, Senator-in-exile Gall Trayvis painted the rebels as villains and announced a reward for their capture. Trayvis’s propaganda gave Kanan an idea: the rebels would broadcast their own transmission by hijacking the Empire’s communications tower on Lothal.

  • Unaware that the Empire had discovered the plan, Kanan tried to ease Ezra’s worries about the mission. But he also told his Padawan that he had to be willing to make sacrifices – including painful ones – for a greater good.

  • All too soon, Ezra had to heed Kanan’s words: The Inquisitor dueled Kanan at the communications tower, once again using his superior command of the Force to defeat him. This time there would be no escape: Kanan urged Hera to flee and became a prisoner of the Empire.

  • Kanan resisted questioning by Imperial interrogation droids and the Inquisitor’s dark-side arts, but Tarkin ordered him taken to the planet Mustafar, where interrogations always produced confessions.

  • Aboard Tarkin’s Star Destroyer, the Inquisitor taunted Kanan, trying to break him by calling him a coward for having abandoned his own master Depa Billaba years before during Order 66.

  • The rebels infiltrated Tarkin’s Star Destroyer and Ezra broke Kanan out of his cell, but the Inquisitor intercepted them. This time, Kanan was able to overcome his fear and let the Force flow. He defeated the Inquisitor, who fell to his death, and escaped with his Padawan. Both still had much to learn, but a strong bond had grown between them.

Hunter is a strong and stoic soldier with a special set of skills. As the leader of the Bad Batch,—technically known as Clone Force 99, a group formed as the result of Kaminoan experiments to create a specialist unit of clone commandos—Hunter has extraordinarily keen senses that give him an edge when tracking down his targets. But his allegiance has been tested in the aftermath of Order 66, and his duty is now to Clone Force 99 alone, including the newest member, young Omega.

    Tech

In the unusual group of specialist clone commandos called Clone Force 99 (or the Bad Batch), Tech is the computer and weapons specialist and easily the most talkative of the group. With his data analysis skills, he can puzzle through technical issues at speeds even faster than some droids. But sometimes his matter-of-fact outlook on the situation fails to consider the emotions of other members of his squad, like Omega.

    Crosshair

Cold, quick, and calculating, Crosshair was once a member of Clone Force 99. A no-nonsense warrior who detested working with "regs," or normal clones, Crosshair served as the Bad Batch's sniper. His sharp vision gives him superior accuracy and, as a result, an air of superiority. After Order 66, he was among the countless clone soldiers committed to the Empire. His ability to neutralize a target at tremendous distance using his customized 773 Firepuncher rifle made him an invaluable soldier to the Emperor and a threat to all those who failed to fall in line. But the Empire did not reward his loyalty, and Crosshair killed a superior officer. Now he is imprisoned at a secret base, the subject of clone experimentation.

They call themselves the Bad Batch. In the age of the Republic, the motley crew making up Clone Force 99 boasted an astounding 100 percent success rate and skills unseen in any other clone troopers. But with the end of the Clone Wars and the rise of the Empire, these soldiers have had to re-evaluate their place in the galaxy. Originally a four-member squad — Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, and Crosshair — the team has adapted over the years to welcome new clone members, including Echo and Omega. Those who remain continue to operate as a unit, using their unique talents to survive at a dangerous time.

    Ezra Bridger

One of the few to be trained as a Jedi after the fall of the Republic, Ezra Bridger grew up an orphan on the streets of Lothal during the age of the Empire. Although he had learned to be wary of strangers, his introduction to the Ghost crew, a small band of rebels fighting back against the Imperial regime, changed his outlook and his future. Training in the ways of the Force under the mentorship of Kanan Jarrus, Ezra became a Jedi Padawan and a part of the emerging rebellion. He also grew close to Hera Syndulla, Zeb, Chopper, and Sabine Wren, who was like a sister in his new found family. After several years together, Bridger vanished during the Battle of Lothal, disappearing into parts unknown in a hyperspace jump that pulled Ezra and Grand Admiral Thrawn into deep space.

    The Ghost

Named for its ability to travel past Imperial sensors without detection, the Ghost has served Captain and pilot Hera Syndulla and her droid, Chopper, for more than a decade. A customized VCX-100 light freighter, the Ghost boasts a number of systems designed to elude foes, including a 360-degree dorsal laser cannon turret, two forward laser cannons, and two rear laser cannons. During the time of the Empire, the starship also served as a mobile base for Syndulla’s small band of rebels working to aid the people of Lothal and other planets in need. After the Galactic Civil War that brought about the New Republic, Hera still prefers flying the Ghost to other ships, using it as a homebase for herself, her droid, and her son, Jacen. Although the original detachable shuttle, the Phantom, was lost in combat with the Empire, the Ghost now operates with the assistance of the Phantom II, a repurposed Neimoidian Sheathipede-class shuttle.

  • The Phantom

    The Phantom

The Phantom was the short-range shuttle craft of the Ghost. While it was a secondary vehicle, the Phantom was a solid starfighter in its own right. It was equipped with forward laser cannons, a dorsal laser turret, and cargo compartments, making the Phantom ideal for supply runs or close encounters with TIE fighters.
