    Lothal

Lothal is a diverse planet, with both farmland and a city center. During the age of the Empire, it fell under Imperial occupation, as farmers were kicked off their land and enormous TIE fighter and weapons factories were built. While most of the population felt powerless in the face of Imperial rule, a select few dared to fight back.

History

An Imperial Star Destroyer flying over Lothal

Lothal’s citizens initially welcomed the Empire’s arrival on Lothal, as the Empire’s investments seemed to promise a boom for the remote Outer Rim world. But some Lothalites soon had second thoughts. As it had done on many other worlds, the Empire restricted the citizens’ freedom, enforcing its will with stormtroopers and TIE fighters. And the industry brought to Lothal wreaked havoc on the planet, with mines and industrial plants marring its grasslands.

  • On the anniversary of the Empire’s founding, Lothalites assembled for a salute to the Emperor and his military might – a pageant that was interrupted by an audacious act of sabotage by Kanan’s rebel cell.

  • A single communications tower controlled by the Empire connected Lothal with the rest of the galaxy. Grand Moff Tarkin ordered the tower destroyed to stop a rebel broadcast, cutting off the planet. This drastic step meant information could only move to and from the planet in the memory banks of courier droids.

  • Intent on crushing all resistance, the Empire increased its military presence on Lothal and further restricted freedoms, while accelerating the planet’s industrial transformation.

    Ezra Bridger

One of the few to be trained as a Jedi after the fall of the Republic, Ezra Bridger grew up an orphan on the streets of Lothal during the age of the Empire. Although he had learned to be wary of strangers, his introduction to the Ghost crew, a small band of rebels fighting back against the Imperial regime, changed his outlook and his future. Training in the ways of the Force under the mentorship of Kanan Jarrus, Ezra became a Jedi Padawan and a part of the emerging rebellion. He also grew close to Hera Syndulla, Zeb, Chopper, and Sabine Wren, who was like a sister in his new found family. After several years together, Bridger vanished during the Battle of Lothal, disappearing into parts unknown in a hyperspace jump that pulled Ezra and Grand Admiral Thrawn into deep space.

    Sabine Wren

Sabine Wren is a Mandalorian warrior and graffiti artist with a creative and rebellious spirit. Independent by nature, during the age of the Empire a young Sabine defected from the Imperial Academy of Mandalore and joined a small rebel cell operating out of the Ghost and led by Hera Syndulla and the Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus. With a gift for colorful explosives and uniquely-painted beskar, Sabine’s signature starbird — a mark she left to sign her street art and other handiwork — inspired what would become the symbol for the Rebel Alliance.

    Loth-cat

A breed of feline native to Lothal and often found in the grassy plains of the Outer Rim planet, Loth-cats are small, temperamental animals. While at times they can be friendly — and indeed, make affectionate pets when domesticated — Loth-cats are able hunters with sharp teeth and claws.

    Governor Pryce

Arihnda Pryce was governor of the Lothal Sector, a confident leader, and believer in the Empire. While Lothal was under control, Pryce still wanted to eradicate the rebel threat. To do so, she asked for the Empire’s seventh fleet, citing the need for a commander who “sees a bigger picture.”

    Minister Maketh Tua

Minister Maketh Tua was a proud member of the Empire. With the rise of the Lothal rebels, Minister Tua gained the ire of Grand Moff Tarkin. Darth Vader and Agent Kallus informed her that she would meet with the Imperial leader, and Tua knew her life was in danger. She secretly contacted the Ghost team, looking for safe passage off Lothal in return for the Empire’s secrets. While they were wary, the rebels agreed and set a rendezvous point. It was not to be, however; Darth Vader knew that Tua would try and escape, and used it to his advantage. After she boarded her shuttle and the rebels neared to escort the Minister, the ship exploded. It was all a setup meant to draw out and frame the rebels. Tua was killed, a tool used for Vader’s evil machinations.

When the Empire came to his planet, he stood against Imperial tyranny with Ezra Bridger’s family, and was accused of treason for doing so. He was later freed from an Imperial prison by the Bridgers and returned to Lothal, living in the city outskirts.
