Here's a look at some of the new cards completed by Star Wars artist Cynthia Narcisi.
"Collectors have been waiting for a long time for a new Galaxy set," Narcisi says. "This is the first Galaxy set to contain sketch cards which is really exciting for collectors and artists. There's going to be an incredible variety of visions and interpretations of Star Wars from the artists, so there will be something for everyone. This is my fifth set of Star Wars sketch cards and I'm just as excited about it as I was when I drew my first Heritage card almost five years ago!"
Of all the cards she drew, Narcisi appreciates the Han-Leia love story the most. "The Han and Leia 'He's so dreamy!' card. Whoever pulls that one, I hope you know it was very hard parting with it. That was one of my favorite scenes from Empire and still is. I know I'd rather not kiss a Wookiee if Han Solo were standing in front of me. My other favorites are the Rancor about to make a meal of a Gamorrean Guard and the Wampa hanging his 'do not disturb' sign."
For this set of artist cards, Narcisi wanted fans to think of what characters did in their off time. "I wanted my cards to have a children's book feel to them since I've been illustrating and writing children's books for the past year," Narcisi explains. "Some are cartoonier than others, which is also part of my style. I wanted there to be humor and to express what I imagined could happen with these characters. Do Jawas do handstands or play jacks? I figure they must, they're so rambunctious! And Leia must have had her hair styled by an Ewok, right? Or maybe she did it herself, but I'm betting she had help. On the other hand, some cards are a little more adult in nature like Salacious having a peek at Leia's leg.
"I also wanted to try to capture the human element we can all relate to like Luke's sadness at the loss of his aunt and uncle," Narcisi continues. "After drawing these characters for so long, it's easy to just let all this happen spontaneously. There wasn't any pre-planning about what I would draw. It was spontaneous, sometimes inspired by the way things were going in my day, or sometimes just based on wanting to draw something personal about love or loss. I think there's something for everyone."
Star Wars Galaxy IV are already available primarily in hobby and comic shops.
