Q: When does this series take place?
After Han Solo acquires the Millennium Falcon, and before the events of A New Hope. I read through a few Star Wars novels to locate a specific period of time, but basically, it's set when Han and Chewie are somewhat based on Tatooine, and they're on relatively good terms with Jabba the Hutt. They may not like Jabba much, but they like his money.
Q: Kids right now have clone troopers and Jedi Knights on their mind. Why do you think they should read about scruffy-looking smugglers too?
"Who's scruffy-looking?" I think the most appealing quality of Han and Chewie has always been that they're basically regular guys who work for a living but also enjoy their freedom. They're not trying to save the galaxy, they're just trying to get by. We can identify with them. Then there's the aspect of achievable goals. Kids can grow up to become scruffy-looking smugglers. Ha ha.
3. How about the, let's say, "older kids" who read Han and Chewie adventures waaaaay back in the late '70s? What can they look forward to in these stories?
For what it's worth, I'm an older kid. I once had the pleasure of telling Brian Daley that I snuck his Han Solo novels into high school because I loved his stories so much. If you've been waiting since the 1970s to read about Han and Chewie visiting the Five Fire Rings of Fornax, this may be the series you've been waiting for!
