Jabba the Hutt's baby son Rotta is often called "Stinky" by Ahsoka Tano. But he might be called Squeaky once you finish with this fun Clone Wars craft. Using sturdy fabric, old socks, embroidery thread and a squeaker toy, you can make a fun toy for your dog or cat!

It's easy to make, plus it's fun! Just follow the instructions below!

What You Need:

  • Dark green denim or corduroy fabric
  • Scissors
  • Straight pins
  • Sewing needle and dark/colored thread
  • Thimble
  • Embroidery thread - black, orange and brown
  • Embroidery needle
  • Paper
  • Ballpoint pen
  • Old socks, fabric scraps, plastic bags
  • Dog toy replacement squeaker
  • Catnip (if you want this to be a cat toy instead)

Instructions:

1. Look at this image of Rotta the Hutt and use it to draw the simple pear-shaped body and an arm on a pieces of paper. Cut them out. These will be your sewing patterns.

2. For your fabric you can use old green jeans or corduroy (ask your parents first!). Fold the fabric, or use a pant leg as it is and secure the patterns using straight pins. You'll want two pieces of fabric from the front and back of Rotta's body and arms. You'll use the arm pattern twice. When you cut leave some fabric around the pattern so you can sew it together with the pattern still pinned on.

3. You'll use the arm pattern twice. When you cut leave some fabric around the pattern so you can sew it together with the pattern still pinned on. Sew the pieces together using sturdy green thread, and be sure not to sew it entirely shut so you can turn the fabric inside out.

4. Stuff Rotta's body and arms with pieces of scrap fabric, socks and plastic bags. Be sure to place the squeaky toy inside Rotta's body. If you want this to be a cat toy instead of a doggy toy, add some organic cat nip in with the stuffing. Then sew the pieces closed.

5. Now sew the arms to Rotta's body. Because the fabric is thicker than most it might be hard to get the needle through, so you may want to use a thimble to help push the needle through the fabric. Because this is a dog toy you'll probably be sewing Rotta's arms back on quite a bit.

6. Lightly draw Rotta's eyes, nose and long smile with a pen. This will be a guide for where you should sew using the embroidery thread.

7. Color in the eyes using the orange and brown embroidery thread, and use the black embroidery thread to sew an outline around the eyes, as well as for the nose and the mouth.

8. When you're done, you should have a smiling Huttlet looking back at you, waiting for you to hand him over to your dog or cat.
