Are your pencils nowhere to be found whenever you need one? When you look in your bag are all your pens scattered leaving a huge inky mess? Sounds like you need some (Jedi) order for your writing supplies! Make your own handy lightsaber pencil holder so you can keep your pens and pencils together and represent your favorite Jedi, or Sith, at the same time.

It's easy to make, plus it's fun! Just follow the instructions below!

What You Need:

  • Felt rectangles (for lightsaber color, hilt, hilt details)
  • Scissors
  • Straight pins
  • Sewing needle and dark/colored thread
  • Non-toxic craft glue
  • Self-adhesive Velcro dots
  • Pencils

Instructions:

1. For the lightsaber hilt color, cut the felt rectangle in half and place on either side of the lightsaber blade color of felt. Secure the lightsaber hilt felt to the colored felt rectangle using straight pins. Sew the felt together so it makes one big rectangle as you see in the image.

2. Cut another piece of hilt colored felt to one of the edges you just sewed to make a pocket for your pencils.

3. Because the lightsaber is so skinny, you'll want to cut across the felt making lightsaber-sized strips to fit about 3 or 4 pencils across. Stick them in the pocket as a guide. Then sew the edges up to close up the pocket. Because you're cutting your felt into strips, you should be able to make a few lightsaber holders just from this one piece!

4. To make the holder loop that will secure your pencils, cut a strip of felt to match the same color of your lightsaber. Measure the strip across the pencils, then cut and sew it on either side of the lightsaber blade using a matching thread color. (Or if you don't have the same color, use white thread then color it with your markers later.)

5. Place your self-adhesive Velcro dot to the inside top and bottom of your lightsaber holder so you can keep them closed when you're not using your pencils. Sew them down if you want to keep the Velcro extra secure. Then fold the lightsaber color down so the two hilt felt pieces are touching, connecting the Velcro dots.

6. Decorate the hilt of the lightsaber with black strips of felt and craft glue. Look at your action figures, toys and lightsabers to see how the hilt is designed. Match it to your favorite Jedi or Sith, or make your own hilt design.

7. Make different colored lightsaber holders to organize all your stuff. You can create an Asajj Ventress lightsaber for your pens, a Yoda lightsaber for colored pencils, and so on. It's all up to you!
