Introduction

By Pete Vilmur

For poster collectors, Episode I jump-started a category of collecting that had by-in-large faded out by the end of the classic trilogy era in the mid-'80s. The arrival of the first film in the prequel trilogy provided an entirely new stable of characters, spacecraft, planets and more to incorporate into posters designed to advertise products, events, and the film itself.

In commemoration of Episode I's tenth anniversary, we've selected ten of our favorite Episode I posters, ranging from video game promotionals to ILM recruitment posters. It's interesting to note that while prequel-era posters incorporate much more photography than the illustration-rich classic trilogy posters, their overall designs are no less compelling.

Episode I Teaser Poster

Naturally, the Episode I teaser poster featuring Anakin on Tatooine casting a shadow of the Sith Lord he would become is a no-brainer for inclusion on our list. Many fans have identified this particular poster as their favorite in the entire Star Wars saga -- a pretty sizable feat considering the incredible spectrum of poster imagery the six films have generated.
