Ever wanted to draw Star Wars characters and vehicles just like the professional comic book artists? In this step-by-step series, Star Wars artists and illustrators show you how to draw some of the most beloved characters in the saga.
In The Clone Wars animated series, Dr. Vindi's assistant droid carries a dangerous Blue Shadow Virus bomb, but in this tutorial, Star Wars artist Nicole Falk shows how to draw the "rabbit" droid carrying something less destructive -- Easter eggs and candy!
Steps 1-4 are drawn lightly with pencil. No pen, no dark lines. Finished lines and details will come at the end.

Step One:
Draw lightly with pencil all the basic shapes like the ovals, circles, rectangles, and connecting lines that make up the "rabbit" assistant droid.
This will help place where the head, ears, shoulders, bulbous body and upper legs will go. This is also where you decide the outline for your pose.

Step Two:
Next sketch in the shapes of the droid on top of your original outline. The ears are triangle shaped, so pencil those in along with the face which include two oval eyes and a mouth. Draw two curved lines from the head to the shoulders to create the neck. Section out his shoulder-chest area by drawing some curved lines, starting with the line that connects the neck, which is just a small smile-like line. Then draw in some more curved lines on one side of the shoulder to give him that pieced together machine build, copy that on the other side.
At the ends of the shoulders place half a round ball -- these are the shoulder ball joints. Sticking out of those shoulder ball joints, draw on each side two lines to make up the upper arms, and then circles for his elbows. Draw more straight lines to make up the lower part of his arms -- the forearms.
You have the basic shape for the body, but these droids split right under the belly, like a shirt. Under the "shirt" draw another half a ball. Leave the upper leg (the thigh) circles right where they are, and add in the bottom half of the droid's body. Now to finish off the legs a bit more, add in some connecting pieces like in the image shown.

Step Three:
Add beveled edges to make it look 3-D. Look at one side of an ear and draw a second matching line a little bit apart from it, and then shade it in. Make sure that the beveled edges are on the same side of each ear.
Behind the eyes are just some triangular shapes. And for the arms, draw in some angled lines off the corners of the rectangles and connect them in order to give them that 3-D appearance. Here you can also attach some droid hands. Add in the lines on his belly too. Follow the curve of that bulbous shape.

Step Four:
Here is where you can add in more details and shading. Since you have your assistant rabbit droid, you can place him wherever you want! This silly rabbit droid seems to think he's the Easter Bunny and he's carrying around a basket of colorfully painted eggs and handing out chocolate bunnies to good Padawans like Ahsoka.

Step Five:
Go over the pencil with some dark ink. Use a pen (like I did), a dark colored pencil or a fine tip marker. Be careful and stay on those lines. After all your hard work, keep this part clean!

Step Six:
Color your drawing any way you want. Use colored pencils or crayons, watercolors or markers (like I did here). You can even color it on the computer. Now that you can draw assistant droids -- let your imagination go! That is the fun part of drawing, it can be anything you want. Hope you had fun with another "Holiday How To" with this Easter Rabbit Droid.
