    Speeder Bike

Speeder bikes are common sights throughout the galaxy, with manufacturers turning out both civilian and military models. One of the best-known speeder bikes is the Aratech 74-Z, which saw service during the Clone Wars and remained a mainstay of Imperial forces during the Galactic Civil War. All speeder bikes are capable of high-speed travel and require skill and fast reflexes.

History

Republic forces ride Aratech 74-Z speeder bikes

The Grand Army of the Republic used Aratech 74-Z speeder bikes during the Clone Wars, often alongside other Aratech models such as the BARC speeder. Republic forces relied on these bikes on worlds such as Saleucami.

Scout trooper rides 74-Z bike on Endor

On Endor, the Empire’s scout troopers used 74-Z bikes to patrol the forests around the shield generator that protected the second Death Star in orbit above.

      • During the Outer Rim Sieges, Stass Allie piloted a 74-Z speeder bike on Saleucami, accompanied by Commander Neyo and his clone troopers. When Neyo received Order 66, he dropped back with the clones and shot Allie out of the sky.

      • A generation later, the Empire’s biker scouts used 74-Zs on the forest moon of Endor. The fast, maneuverable bikes proved ideal for patrolling the perimeter around the shield generator that protected the Death Star during its construction in space above.

      • When the rebel commando team sent to destroy the shield generator ran into an Imperial patrol, two biker scouts zipped away to report the intrusion. Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia pursued the scouts, doubling up on a commandeered 74-Z.

      • Leia jammed the Imperials’ transmissions and raced after them, branches whipping past on both sides. Leia and Luke drew alongside one of the bikes and the rebels and the Imperial tried to bump each other off course.

      • Seeing a chance, Luke jumped from the back of Leia’s bike to the Imperial 74-Z. After a brief struggle, he threw the scout off the bike. Now he and Leia were pursuing the last biker scout.

      • Their advantage was only momentary – the Imperial and the rebels rocketed past another pair of biker scouts, who joined the chase.

      • The chase was perilous – a second’s loss of focus could put a rider on a collision course with one of Endor’s massive trees, as one Imperial scout discovered too late.

      • But the forest held other dangers. Leia lost control of her bike after an Imperial scout fired at her with his blaster, forcing her to leap off her 74-Z. The unconscious rebel leader would be discovered by an Ewok brave named Wicket – a fateful meeting with enormous consequences for the galaxy.

      • Unaware of what had happened to Leia, Luke continued to jockey for position with the final biker scout. After having to bail out, Luke ignited his lightsaber and sliced off the control vanes of the Imperial scout’s bike, sending him spinning into a tree.

      • When the rebels and Ewoks scouted the shield generator, Paploo decided to create a diversion. He stole a 74-Z, leading the Imperials on a chase through the woods and freeing the rebels to assault the Imperial bunker.

      • The Ewoks came to rebels’ rescue after their capture, attacking the Imperials with bows and axes. Scouts boarded their bikes to pursue the Ewoks, but discovered their enemies had filled the woods with traps – such as ropes hung at chest height between trees.

        Stass Allie

A Tholothian member of the Jedi Council, Stass Allie served as a Jedi General during the Clone Wars, beginning with the Jedi mission to rescue Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker from execution on Geonosis. Stass led clone troopers into battle on many worlds, culminating with the Outer Rim Sieges. She was piloting her BARC speeder on Saleucami when Darth Sidious issued Order 66 to her wingman, Commander Neyo. Obeying orders, Neyo and another clone trooper dropped behind Stass and blew her speeder bike out of the sky.

        Scout Troopers

Scout troopers were lightly armored compared with other stormtroopers, which allowed them to move more quickly and easily in a range of environments. They were also trained for more independence and adaptability than most Imperial troops. The Empire used scout troopers for a range of missions, including reconnaissance and infiltration. On Endor, scout troopers riding speeder bikes patrolled the forests, guarding against threats to the shield generator protecting the second Death Star during its construction in orbit above the moon.

        BARC Speeder

An army is only as effective as its mobility, so the Grand Army of the Republic was outfitted with an increasingly varied and versatile vehicle pool as the Clone Wars progressed. The BARC speeder gave a single clone trooper increased operational range, great speed, mobility, and firepower otherwise unavailable to the foot soldier. A more aggressive and bulkier design than slimmer speeder bikes used by the Jedi, the BARC speeder was used in scouting and escort missions on a variety of worlds. They were easily adaptable, with support struts that could be added to hold a stretcher or sidecar.

One-man vehicles designed for speed, Lothal Speeder Bikes featured a white color scheme and were outfitted with forward blaster cannons. Cargo could be attached to the rear of the hovering vehicles and moved quickly, though the real value of Imperial Speeder Bikes came from their ability to chase suspected rebels or suspects.

        Endor

Secluded in a remote corner of the galaxy, the forest moon of Endor would easily have been overlooked by history were it not for the decisive battle that occurred there. The lush, forest home of the Ewok species is the gravesite of Darth Vader and the Empire itself. It was here that the Rebel Alliance won its most crucial victory over the Galactic Empire.

        Freeco Bike

Thanks to modified systems, freeco bikes functioned in frigid weather that would ground a Repulic gunship. These speeder bikes were properly known as CK-6 swoop bikes, and their nickname was a nod to the "freezing cold" conditions for which they were designed.
