Confident and skilled in the cockpit of a New Republic X-wing fighter, Kaz's new assignment as a spy for the Resistance leaves him feeling out of his element. Now living on the independent fueling station known as the Colossus, Kaz is doing his best to fit in as a mechanic so he can carry out his mission.

A daring pilot at the Colossus station with a sense of flair and competitiveness, Torra Doza has the combined energy of a hotshot Ace and a fifteen-year old. She is the daughter of the station operator, Captain Imanuel Doza, and lives in the station’s upper levels.

Located on the Outer Rim water planet of Castilon, the Colossus is a dangerous place that tends to attract well-meaning outcasts and more unsavory denizens of far-flung planets alike. Protected by some of the best pilots around, the Aces, elite stars of entertaining and dangerous sky races, the platform is soon infiltrated by the First Order, architects of a larger conflict brewing in the galaxy. But a small band of Resistance sympathizers led by secret spy Kazuda Xiono discover that the platform isn't what it seems.

An elite First Order operative clad in distinct crimson armor and with a TIE fighter to match, Major Baron Elrik Vonreg reports directly to Captain Phasma. Part of a secret operation, he makes a personal visit to the Colossus with a shipment of fuel, all in an attempt to coerce Captain Doza into approving First Order protection on the platform.

Located in the Western Reaches near Takodana, the planet Castilon is dominated by vast oceans. The surface is broken up by the occasional inhabited structures, including for a time the Colossus, a refueling station and home to wannabe racers.
