History

Snoke issuing commands to Kylo Ren

A master of the Force and a seeker of arcane lore, Snoke seduced young Ben Solo when the Force-sensitive boy desperately needed a teacher. Snoke’s influence would prove critical when Luke Skywalker finally agreed to make Ben one of his new Jedi apprentices. Ben destroyed Luke’s temple, left with several of his students, and slaughtered the rest. Snoke then became his new master.

Snoke laughing maniacally aboard his Dreadnaught 'Supremacy'

Snoke’s plans were coming to fruition. He rose to become Supreme Leader of the hermetic First Order, which was building a mighty war machine beyond the veil of the galactic frontier. With this military buildup complete, Snoke agreed to decapitate the New Republic by incinerating the Hosnian system and the Senate, and sought to find Luke’s place of exile and kill the last Jedi.

Snoke meeting his demise at the hands of Kylo Ren

Snoke ordered Kylo to complete his training by killing Rey, exulting at the resolve he sensed in his oft-conflicted apprentice. But Snoke’s visions and Force senses had betrayed him. The former Ben Solo ignited Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber, cleaving his master in two and ending Snoke’s life. Kylo thought he had destroyed a key part of the past that tormented him, but would soon discover Snoke had been created and controlled by a more powerful master of the dark side, as part of a sinister scheme set in motion decades earlier.

    Supreme Leader Kylo Ren

The son of Han Solo and Leia Organa, Ben Solo was seduced by the dark side of the Force and renamed himself Kylo Ren: leader of the Knights of Ren, champion of the First Order, and apprentice to Supreme Leader Snoke. Driven to destroy the past, Kylo killed his father and his master, supplanting Snoke as Supreme Leader. But he remained haunted by his father’s death, his connection with the mysterious Rey, and the pull of the good in himself. In time, all three would help Ben Solo return to the light.

    Emperor Palpatine (Darth Sidious)

The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural, and Sheev Palpatine is the most infamous follower of its doctrines. Scheming, powerful, and evil to the core, Darth Sidious restored the Sith and destroyed the Jedi Order. Living a double life, he was also Palpatine, a Naboo Senator and phantom menace. He manipulated the political system of the Galactic Republic until he was named Supreme Chancellor -- and eventually Emperor – and ruled the galaxy through fear and tyranny. The galaxy rejoiced when he died at the Battle of Endor, but Sidious had cheated death and patiently plotted a return to power.

    Starkiller Base

Deep in the Unknown Regions, the First Order constructed a superweapon that used an entire planet as its weapons platform. The deadly Starkiller harvested energy from its system’s star, contained it within magnetic fields inside the planetary core, and then converted that energy into an ultra-powerful beam that blasted through hyperspace, able to sterilize the worlds of a distant star system with a single shot. Starkiller Base’s first shot obliterated the New Republic capital of Hosnian Prime. The planet was then destroyed in a daring Resistance raid.

    The Supremacy

A capital ship built on a nearly unimaginable scale, the Supremacy is a vast flying wing more than 60 kilometers wide. In addition to being a warship with enormous firepower, it serves Supreme Leader Snoke as throne room and the First Order as mobile capital. Its vast interior houses army training grounds, shipyards, production lines and R&D labs. The mighty ship was torn in two before the Battle of Crait, ripped apart when Vice Admiral Holdo sent the Raddus into hyperspace along a path that passed through the larger craft.

    Elite Praetorian Guard

Clad in ornate crimson armor, these warriors guarded Supreme Leader Snoke, ready to meet any threat with a savage response. The Guard consisted of eight sentinels divided into four pairs, with each pair brandishing unique weapons. Their red armor was a deliberate echo of that worn by Emperor Palpatine’s royal protectors. The Guard attacked Kylo Ren and Rey after the death of Snoke, with all eight falling in battle.

    The First Order

The New Republic’s rise reduced the once-mighty Empire to a rump state hemmed in by strict disarmament treaties and punishing reparations. But in the galaxy’s Unknown Regions, former Imperial officers, nobles and technologists plotted a return to power, building fleets and armies in secret. This movement became the First Order, ruled by Supreme Leader Snoke, and is now ready to reclaim the Imperial legacy.
