To crack heavily armored targets, the Resistance called upon two squadrons of MG-100 StarFortress bombers laden with powerful proton bombs. The bombers were committed to another mission during the raid on Starkiller Base, but rushed back to D’Qar for the base’s evacuation. Escorted by swift starfighters, Cobalt Squadron attacked the initial wave of First Order warships to buy time for Leia Organa’s freedom fighters to escape. All of the bombers were lost, along with their crews, in this desperate mission.

A talented pilot and gunner, Paige Tico operates the ventral guns on the Resistance bomber Cobalt Hammer. She fled the Otomok system and joined the Resistance with her younger sister Rose. Paige loves animals, particularly fathiers, and dreams of seeing one during some quiet period when the galaxy is at peace.

Six Resistance bombers, including Paige Tico’s Cobalt Hammer, made up Cobalt Squadron. The squadron was unavailable for the attack on Starkiller Base because it was bringing supplies to insurgents opposing the First Order in the Atterra system. The bombers rushed back to D’Qar aboard the Ninka and were sent into combat to buy time for the Resistance evacuation. They destroyed a First Order Dreadnought, but were lost along with all of their crews.

Resistance bombers carry more than 1,000 proton bombs in racks that fill a modular magazine beneath the hull. On a bombardier’s signal, the bomb-bay doors open and the magnetized charges are drawn towards the target below. Resistance crew members often decorate proton bombs with cartoons or defiant messages aimed at the First Order.

A small, secretive private military force, the Resistance was founded by rebel hero Leia Organa to monitor the actions of the First Order. Most New Republic power brokers tolerate the Resistance while regarding Organa and her fighters as dead-enders with an unfortunate fixation on the past. Organa’s cash-strapped movement relies on credits, ships and equipment quietly funneled to it from the few senators who share her concerns. Resistance starfighters destroyed Starkiller Base, but the First Order’s retaliatory attack on D’Qar reduced its forces to a handful of brave freedom fighters.

A massive Mandator IV-class Siege Dreadnought, the Fulminatrix was armed with deadly orbital bombardment cannons that could penetrate planetary shields. The First Order assigned this huge warship, commanded by Moden Canady, the task of incinerating D’Qar’s Resistance base. Canady succeeded, but the Fulminatrix was destroyed by a Resistance bomber run.
