THE FIRST ORDER
When he needed help returning BB-8 to the Resistance, Han Solo immediately thought of Maz Kanata, the smuggler queen of Takodana who might have been the best-connected underworld figure in the galaxy. Han hadn’t seen Maz in years, but knew that for the ancient being decades were but moments in time.
Maz counseled Han that he was the one who needed to return – not just to the Resistance but to Leia Organa. She witnessed Rey’s Force vision and urged her to take Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber, one of many curios in her vast collection. When an overwhelmed Rey refused, Maz gave the Jedi weapon to Finn, knowing his destiny was linked with Rey’s. When her guests departed, she began the repairs to her castle necessitated by the First Order’s attack.
A lush green world in the galaxy’s Western Reaches, Takodana has long served as the base of operations for the diminutive pirate queen Maz Kanata, whose ancient castle is a haven for smugglers, brigands, scouts and spies from numerous worlds. Takodana has been largely spared war over the centuries, remaining neutral as galaxy-ruling regimes come and go around it.
The ancient edifice known as Maz’s castle sits on the shore of a lake on Takodana, a site rumored to have been a battleground for the Jedi and Sith. The castle is simultaneously aged and state of the art, with sensor grids and advanced communications gear sprouting from worn stone battlements. Inside Maz’s castle, pirates, smugglers, spies and all manner of scoundrels mix and mingle, searching for loans, information, equipment, repairs -- or kicking back to enjoy music, food and drink or games of chance. All must obey their host’s prohibitions against politics or war.
Smuggler. Scoundrel. Hero. Han Solo, captain of the Millennium Falcon, was one of the great leaders of the Rebel Alliance. He and his co-pilot Chewbacca came to believe in the cause of galactic freedom, joining Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa in the fight against the Empire. But after the Battle of Endor, Han would face difficult times in a galaxy plagued by chaos and uncertainty.
A legendary Wookiee warrior and Han Solo’s co-pilot aboard the Millennium Falcon, Chewbacca was part of a core group of Rebels who restored freedom to the galaxy. Known for his short temper and accuracy with a bowcaster, Chewie also has a big heart -- and is unwavering in his loyalty to his friends. He has stuck with Han through years of turmoil that have changed both the galaxy and their lives.
Rey is a Jakku scavenger, a survivor toughened by life on a harsh desert planet. When the fugitive droid BB-8 appeals to her for help, Rey finds herself drawn into a galaxy-spanning conflict. Despite dismissing herself as “no one,” she learns that her life is being shaped by the mysterious power of the Force.
Anakin Skywalker lost his first lightsaber in a Geonosian droid factory, but soon constructed a new one as its replacement. He carried this blue-bladed Jedi weapon throughout the Clone Wars, wielding it in many battles. Anakin kept this second lightsaber after he pledged himself to Darth Sidious, using it in his duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar. Thinking Anakin would die, Obi-Wan took his lightsaber and kept it on Tatooine for nearly two decades. He then gave it to Luke Skywalker, who lost it when Darth Vader – the saber’s original owner – struck off his son’s hand in Cloud City.
