Steelpeckers collect vanadium, osmiridium and corundum in their gizzards, with the resulting chemical stew helping break down their metallic meals. Jakku’s scavengers steer clear of steelpecker colonies, which can overwhelm intruders with razor-sharp talons and beaks.
