Sebulba![]()
![]() From the MoviesAn especially dangerous Dug who could once be found roaming the streets of Mos Espa, Sebulba is a shifty Podracing champion who never lets such trite concepts as rules and sportsmanship get in the way of victory.Sebulba was the reigning champion of the Outer Rim Podrace circuit in the waning days of the Republic. Though no one will dispute that his souped-up, overpowered orange-colored racer was fast, many of his triumphs were afforded through the use of illegal weaponry hidden aboard his vehicle. Sebulba flies dirty, and will even stoop to sabotaging a competitor's Podracer before the race begins. A hotshot with an interminable ego, Sebulba draped himself with the airs of success. Among his most prized possessions were a lovely pair of Twi'lek masseuses that rubbed him down before a stressful race. At the Boonta Eve Classic, Sebulba was heavily favored to win. In a surprising upset, however, a local slave boy backed by a mysterious outlander bested him in the contest. To add even more insult to this career-injury, Sebulba lost control of his Podracer in the final stretch, and crashed the expensive giant into the desert sands. From the Expanded UniverseAn excellent showman, Sebulba is beloved by many a race fan despite his unsportsmanlike conduct. A cynic would say it's precisely Sebulba's chicanery that merits his popularity. After all, you're often guaranteed a great crash if Sebulba's in the running. While at Mos Espa, fans would crowd around the Dug at the Akim's Munch street caf? and pay tribute to their favorite star. Sebulba's trademark Collor Pondrat Plug-F Mammoth Podracer was almost as famous as he was... that is until the day it all fell apart at the Boonta Eve Classic. Sebulba was not one to wallow in failure, however. He quickly bounced back from his defeat by purchasing the very Podracer that bested him. Sebulba bought the Radon-Ulzer from Qui-Gon Jinn, and repainted it with his distinctive orange racing color. He participated in the Vinta Harvest Classic on Malastare shortly thereafter. Sebulba is a perfectionist. He personally organizes and rehearses the bands that play his fanfare whenever he enters a racing arena. As further evidence of his dispicable character, Sebulba has dabbled in the slave trade, hiring Abyssin and Sakiyan henchmen to round up children to be sold in the Outer Rim. Although history hasn't recorded the Dug's fate, it is known that Sebulba's grandson, Pugwis, continues the Podracing tradition in modern times. Behind the ScenesEarly script notes for Sebulba described him as "spidery," and Lucas envisioned a character with a tangle of agile limbs that functioned both as hands and feet. Since he had to operate a Podracer -- and be one of the preeminent pilots in the sport -- he had to be both light in frame yet powerful and deadly. Thus came Sebulba's thin yet muscular build. His face was inspired by that of a camel, though early drawings gave him tusks that hindered lip-sync. Sebulba's costume was inspired by medieval armor, and his goggles magnified his eyes to make his appearance even more unsettling. Keywords: Databank - Episode I, Databank - Expanded Universe Filed under: Vault, Character
