    Wullf Yularen

An admiral in the Republic's service, Yularen served gallantly in the Clone Wars, commanding a Jedi Cruiser in many campaigns against Separatist forces. Yularen was assigned to serve with the Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, and the rigid officer and the impulsive Jedi made for an odd combination. Yularen admired Anakin's bravery and instincts in battle while deploring his recklessness and willingness to interpret orders creatively -- or ignore them altogether.

History

Wullf Yularen commanding a Republic cruiser

A by-the-book Republic officer, Wullf Yularen commanded the Jedi Cruiser Resolute during the Clone Wars, frequently coordinating missions with Jedi General Anakin Skywalker. Yularen admired Skywalker’s abilities and bravery, while deploring the young Jedi’s recklessness.

Yularen fought in many battles, seeing action at Christophsis, Kamino, Quell, Ryloth, Geonosis, Saleucami, and Sullust. When the Republic became the Empire, he continued in Imperial service, advancing steadily through the ranks.

With the Empire seeking to fight corruption and restore the rule of law in the galaxy, Yularen traded his naval career for a position within the Imperial Security Bureau, ferreting out sedition in the Senate. As a colonel in the ISB, he was appointed to the Death Star, becoming part of its command hierarchy under Grand Moff Tarkin.

Wullf Yularen and Grand Admiral Thrawn

Yularen was called in by Grand Admiral Thrawn to lead the search for a rebel spy, code name Fulcrum. The military veteran was reconnected with Agent Kallus, one of his star pupils, aboard Thrawn's command ship. Little did Yularen know that Fulcrum was actually Kallus, a truth that surprised him once Thrawn deduced the traitor's identity.

      • Years later, Yularen was a white-haired veteran of the Imperial military, serving aboard the Death Star battle station (seen here seated next to Admiral Motti). When the Republic became the Empire, Yularen traded his naval career for a position with the Imperial Security Bureau, seeking to root out sedition in the Senate and serving as a liaison to the Military Intelligence agency. His lengthy service record and mix of military and intelligence skills made him one of the more important members of the Imperial hierarchy, culminating with an assignment aboard the Death Star battle station.

        Death Star

The Death Star was the Empire’s ultimate weapon: a moon-sized space station with the ability to destroy an entire planet. But the Emperor and Imperial officers like Grand Moff Tarkin underestimated the tenacity of the Rebel Alliance, who refused to bow to this technological terror…

        Anakin Skywalker

Discovered as a slave on Tatooine by Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker had the potential to become one of the most powerful Jedi ever. Some even believed he was the prophesied Chosen One who would bring balance to the Force. Always pushing the limits of his Jedi training, seeking to excel and live up to his reputation, Skywalker's passion often brought him into conflict with his mentor, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. A hero of the Clone Wars, Anakin was caring and compassionate, but suffered from a deep fear of loss that would prove to be his downfall.

        Republic Attack Cruiser

The Republic attack cruiser was not primarily a cargo transport, troop carrier or other replenishment or supply vessel; it was developed and honed for ship-to-ship combat. Its huge armored shape had an aggressive, dagger-like profile, studded with heavy weapons emplacements capable of punching through powerful shields and sturdy armor. The front half of the ship's spine contained a massive flight deck capable of scrambling the latest in Republic starfighters. The huge hangar doors opened to allow ships to land or takeoff from the deck; the vessel also had a smaller docking bay entrance on its lower side.

        Grand Moff Tarkin

An ambitious, ruthless proponent of military power, Wilhuff Tarkin became a favorite of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and rose rapidly through the Imperial ranks. Shortly after the Empire's creation, he was put in charge of the construction of the Death Star. Tarkin saw the Death Star as a way to crush all dissent to the Empire's rule -- fear of the station's planet-killing superlaser would keep the galaxy's star systems in line. He demonstrated the station's power by destroying Alderaan, but died soon afterwards when the Death Star itself was destroyed.

        Galactic Republic

For over a thousand years, the Galactic Republic stood firm as a democratic union that governed the galaxy. The Republic was governed by the Galactic Senate, consisting of elected officials from each system and world, and Jedi Knights served as peacekeepers. With the rise of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, however, the Galactic Republic -- and democracy -- would crumble.
