  • While Hunter and Echo are offworld, the rest of the squad relaxes at Cid's Parlor. But their leisure time is interrupted when Cid asks for their assistance as security detail for a trip to Safa Toma.

  • At the bustling Safa Toma Raceway, Omega, Wrecker, and Tech take in the dangerous sport of Riot racing, where specially modified speeders traverse a twisting track. With even fewer rules than podracing, the sport is infinitely more dangerous as weapons are routinely deployed to eliminate the competition. Cid's latest money-making venture involves backing a droid racer, TAY-0.

  • TAY-0 is as self-assured as his backer. However, another contender, Jet Venim, and his sponsor Millegi, are eager to beat Cid on the track. "If you're so confident, how about our standard side wager?" Millegi challenges Cid. "Let's see who has the better racer."

  • In the next race, TAY-0 and Venim are nearly even in the final lap. Using a small comm, Millegi instructs "Steel Claw" Kane to deploy his namesake gadget, trapping TAY-0 between the two speeders. His vehicle is shredded by Venim's drill blade, spinning out of control and off the track in a spectacular crash.

  • TAY-0's speeder is wrecked and the droid is in pieces. A smirking Millegi arrives to collect on Cid's debt, but she doesn't have the credits to settle up. "Just give me some time," she says. "I'm good for it."

  • Cid is in deeper trouble than she's letting on. Quickly, Omega proposes a new deal: "One last race. If you win, we pay you double. If we win, we get Cid." Millegi agrees, confident in his chances, and takes Cid with him for collateral.

  • Tech, Wrecker, and Omega spend the evening rebuilding the speeder and repairing TAY-0. The droid's mangled body does little to dampen his spirit. As Tech and Omega discuss Cid's penchant for making business deals with "individuals of questionable integrity," Tech stops working on TAY-0. "How about a little less chatter, a little more spanner," the droid quips.

  • The next day, Wrecker and Omega make the final adjustments to Cid's speeder while Tech studies the track schematics. "I am analyzing the course and patterns of the racers," he tells TAY-0. "It is fascinating." The clone gamely offers some advice for diverting power to the deflector shields to win. But, ironically, the droid says calculations won't help on the course. "It is all about strategy and skill. Of which you have zero."

  • TAY-0's condescension is cut off abruptly as he steps into the path of a crashing speeder mid-wipe out! The Batch's work to repair the droid is completely undone.

  • Millegi is confident TAY-0's accident means Cid will have to forfeit, but to everyone's surprise a new racer steps forward: Tech.

  • The race begins. Tech starts out in last place, a strategy to stay out of the line of fire as other racers pick each other off the course.

  • Omega transmits the schematics of the left tunnel to Tech's display so he can study the course while he avoids the fiery wreckage of another unfortunate racer. As he rounds the track to make a pit stop, he ejects his speeder's weapons to lighten his craft. "I need more speed," he says bluntly. "They were slowing me down."

  • Omega realizes the left tunnel is missing part of its track, but Tech uses his increased maneuverability to zip through the "Nellis Express to Lotho Minor" and jump the gap, closing in on the other racers as he exits.

  • Soon, Tech finds himself in the "crunch," locked between Venim and Steel Claw in the competition-eliminating maneuver. But Tech, always one step ahead, hits the brakes and his speeder drops out of the way as the claw lurches forward and grabs Venim's speeder instead!

  • It's a close race to the finish, but Tech glides over the finish line largely unscathed, having outwitted his opponents. The Batch have succeeded in saving Cid's skin.

  • But as they leave Safa Toma, Millegi compliments the team's loyalty before issuing a warning. "With Cid, it doesn't always go both ways. Watch your backs."
