Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Season 5, Episode 16 //
The Lawless Episode Guide
A deadly, agile Sith Lord trained by the evil Darth Sidious, Darth Maul was a formidable warrior and scheming mastermind. He wielded an intimidating double-bladed lightsaber and fought with a menacing ferocity. Though he fell in battle against Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Zabrak from Dathomir would prove to be much harder to destroy than originally believed.
The leader of Mandalore during the Clone Wars, Duchess Satine of Kalevala was a controversial figure. She longed to move Mandalore beyond its violent past and instituted a government that valued pacifism. Though Mandalore did begin to rebuild under her guidance, the dark shadow of the Clone Wars made the Duchess' goals difficult to achieve.
Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano escaped from Teth aboard the battered spice freighter Twilight, surviving a crash landing on Tatooine. Anakin had the ship salvaged and repaired for a number of reasons. He'd become fond of her, she'd proved surprisingly maneuverable, she offered Anakin plenty of opportunities for tinkering with machinery, and a nondescript freighter could prove useful on secret missions. While Anakin enjoyed tinkering with the Twilight, she proved difficult to keep spaceworthy -- as Obi-Wan Kenobi discovered when he borrowed the freighter to rescue Duchess Satine from captivity on Mandalore. The Twilight barely held together long enough to land, and was later shot down by Death Watch commandos. Obi-Wan and Satine escaped the crash, but the old freighter had finally met her end.
During the Clone Wars, a coup orchestrated by Death Watch toppled the pacifist regime of the New Mandalorians and returned the armored warrior culture to a position of power over the isolated world. What the average Mandalorian citizen did not realize is that the takeover was in truth masterminded by a secret syndicate of criminals -- the Shadow Collective led by Darth Maul. Maul's loyal Mandalorians modified their armor to reflect allegiance to the Dark Lord. These super commandos wore armor of red and black, and some even fashioned horns atop their helmet, to better resemble their Nightbrother leader.
