  • Mace Windu, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker meet with Rex to discuss the state of battlefronts on Anaxes. Now that Admiral Trench no longer has access to Echo's strategic algorithm, the Republic has an opportunity to retake the planet. "I can improve your chances," Echo says as he enters the command center.

  • Echo has a plan: While Mace leads a team to retake the assembly complex, the Bad Batch will escort him to Trench's comm vault on a Separatist dreadnaught. Once Echo is plugged in, he can feed Trench strategies. This time, Republic forces will know every move before the Separatist leader makes it.

  • But not everyone is not fully convinced. Before takeoff, Tech speaks with Rex. "To be blunt, his mind belonged to the Separatists until we unplugged him," Tech says. "We don't really know where his loyalties lie." The clone captain does not take this expression of doubt well. "Yeah, well, I know," he replies. "Now get moving." Once the Republic heroes near the command ship, Echo sends a signal that converts their shuttle-type to a Separatist model. Trench's battle droids give them permission to land.

  • On Anaxes, Windu leads his men into the assembly complex, only to find a mass of battle droids. He offers them an opportunity to put down their weapons and be reprogrammed in service of the Republic, which is quickly declined in the form of blaster fire. "Well, I guess it was worth a try," Kenobi quips as the battle erupts.

  • In the com-vault, Echo intercepts a strategy request and sends Trench a command to move all battle droids to the assembly complex. Though Republic troops will be vastly outnumbered, Echo plans to fire a feedback pulse that will shut down the Separatist forces. Tech and Hunter aren't sure of Echo's motivations, but Rex maintains belief in his old friend. "We have to trust him," Rex says.

  • The remaining battle droids arrive in the assembly complex. Just as they surround the Jedi and clones, Echo sends out the pulse and the droids begin to fall, one by one. Soon, Windu contacts Anakin; they've taken control of the complex, and all battlefronts are falling to the Republic.

  • This failure shocks Trench, but he resolves to win at any cost. He initiates a bomb countdown at the assembly complex; the weapon is powerful enough to destroy most of the planet. Echo discovers the command and Windu goes to deactivate the device, though ray shields prevent him from accessing the control panel.

  • Echo reads the deactivation code to Windu, who enters the sequence through the power of the Force. But when the Separatists finally trace the pulse back to the com-vault, they jam the signal before Mace can finish -- and Echo pays the price.

  • Out of options, Anakin makes a run for the bridge to find Trench. He quickly eliminates the admiral's droid protectors and demands the last entry in the code. Trench refuses, saying Dooku would kill him -- and a Jedi would not. Enraged, Skywalker slices off Trench's cybernetic arms. "I don't have such weaknesses," he growls. "Now, let's try that again."

  • Trench finally talks, and Anakin relays the final number to Mace. He successfully deactivates the bomb, but Trench makes a surprise strike on Skywalker. In return, the Jedi stabs the admiral through and takes a detonator before departing.

  • The Bad Batch fight their way through the ship's battle droids, with Wrecker and Crosshair showcasing their own particular styles of combat, and make it back to their shuttle. "I've got a present for you, Wrecker," Anakin says, handing him the detonator. The hulking clone cries a single tear and presses its button; as the Republic heroes soar away, the Separatist fleet explodes.

  • Back at the Republic base, the Bad Batch make Echo an offer. "Your path is different, like ours," Hunter says. "If you ever feel like you don't fit in with them, find us." Rex tells Echo that if that's where he believes his place is, that's where he belongs. Echo ponders this for a moment, and then walks toward the Bad Batch. Together, they salute Rex, and the captain returns the sign of respect.

  • "Here, we have a clone who has been taken away and partially mechanized. And that's a big issue in Star Wars. As fans will know, the more mechanized you become, this implies a lack of humanity, and would also then imply a lack of trust." - Dee Bradley Baker ("Rex" and all clones)

  • "A really wonderful element of the Bad Batch story of this four-part arc is Rex reconnecting with Echo, Echo reconnecting with his humanity, and then how that story plays out, which is quite emotional. I got choked up at the end of the arc." - Dee Bradley Baker ("Rex" and all clones)

  • "It becomes a matter of progression for Echo -- that he's elevated to this squad of elite clones, coming from the near-death state that he was at, that he can ascend to this moment, that he's supported by Rex. Hopefully, that's a nice story for people." - Dave Filoni (Executive Producer & Supervising Director)

Clone Force 99 "The Bad Batch"

They call themselves the Bad Batch. In the age of the Republic, the motley crew making up Clone Force 99 boasted an astounding 100 percent success rate and skills unseen in any other clone troopers. But with the end of the Clone Wars and the rise of the Empire, these soldiers have had to re-evaluate their place in the galaxy. Originally a four-member squad — Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, and Crosshair — the team has adapted over the years to welcome new clone members, including Echo and Omega. Those who remain continue to operate as a unit, using their unique talents to survive at a dangerous time.

    Admiral Trench

A Separatist admiral known for his cunning and ruthlessness, Trench commands the Separatist blockade of Christophsis, where Senator Bail Organa and his relief effort are pinned down and in danger of capture. Although Anakin Skywalker outwits him and Trench's flagship is destroyed, the skilled tactician survives to fight another day thanks to an array of cybernetic implants.

  • Crosshair

    default

    Crosshair

Cold, quick, and calculating, Crosshair was once a member of Clone Force 99. A no-nonsense warrior who detested working with "regs," or normal clones, Crosshair served as the Bad Batch's sniper. His sharp vision gives him superior accuracy and, as a result, an air of superiority. After Order 66, he was among the countless clone soldiers committed to the Empire. His ability to neutralize a target at tremendous distance using his customized 773 Firepuncher rifle made him an invaluable soldier to the Emperor and a threat to all those who failed to fall in line. But the Empire did not reward his loyalty, and Crosshair killed a superior officer. Now he is imprisoned at a secret base, the subject of clone experimentation.

  • Wrecker

    default

    Wrecker

The boisterous bruiser of Clone Force 99, a group of elite soldiers known as the Bad Batch, Wrecker is a tower of a soldier, with powerful muscles that make him far stronger than the average clone. He earns his nickname well, as he has a flair for barreling through any obstacle thrown his way and serves as the resident demolitions expert -- a job he performs with much enthusiasm.
