This episode was originally titled “Ascension: Part Two”.
In an early iteration of Zeb’s repeated punches of Rukh, he was saying “I… have… had… enough.. of… you!” in a nod to James T. Kirk finally besting his Klingon opponent in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.
One cinematic reference that did remain was the shot of Rukh looking back to Zeb through Zeb’s binocular view. This was a nod to Rear Window.
This episode marks the first appearance of Dume, the largest of the loth-wolves. His name and forehead markings match Kanan’s true surname and shoulder armor marking respectively.
The effect of Rukh’s invisibility field is similar to the holographic disguise matrix seen in Season Four of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, suggesting they may be related technologies.
