What do you do when you have more thoughts about Star Wars Rebels than you know what to do with? Make a list of your favorite moments — in no particular order, because that might fry your circuits. Welcome to Ranking Rebels.
C1-10P, a.k.a. Chopper, is well known as the mouthy little astromech with a deep devotion to Hera and more than one special ability — but where and how did that happen? “The Forgotten Droid” begins to explain.
Here are my 10 favorite moments from the episode.
1. Protocol meets attitude.
My absolute favorite moment had to be the end of the episode. Listening to Chopper and AP-5 argue warmed my heart completely. I honestly think Chopper’s found a kindred spirit — woe be to the rest of the rebels. (Okay, this really was my No. 1 moment. No more ranking after this.)
2. Chopper gets grabby hands.
Chopper spotting the new leg, a.k.a ambulatory strut. Unlike Threepio, who expresses his dissatisfaction with his mismatched arm by telling anyone who will listen, Chopper’s been suffering in silence (which is pretty amazing when you think about it) until he spots that shiny new replacement part. I half expected a heart to pop up over his head, a la a 1940s cartoon, because it was definitely love at first sight.
3. Workin’ the leg.
Chopper’s leg juggling overall. That leg got flipped, twirled, swung, and kicked so many different ways that I’m thinking we should make Chopper a majorette in a parade sometime.
4. Little things mean a lot (the snippets of awesome).
These snippets: AP-5 “chasing” Chopper. AP-5 and Chopper playing peek-a-boo in the cargo bay. Kanan’s “we do it quietly” when it comes to the fuel heist. Like THAT ever happens.
5. War stories.
This entire scene. There’s so much here and it ends up revealing that both droids are not only military droids, but they both were on the same side and at the same battle. Plus, Chopper zapping off AP-5’s restraining bolt. Such a small action for such a huge opportunity.
6. Chopper could have been a contendah!
Every single time that Imperial captain gets zapped, whapped, and laid out. Chopper’s a scrapper! It’s too much fun to watch. Zeb better watch out. Also, every single time Chopper tells a story about who he is. If this keeps up, he’s going to tell someone he’s the Emperor one day!
7. Never tell me the odds.
The entire plan to get the rest of the crew off the cargo ship. From AP-5’s declaration of the odds to Chopper’s little victory whirl, it’s poetry in motion.
8. Hey, we helped!
Lest we forget, the rest of the Ghost crew was pretty epic, too. After all, they did get the fuel, deliver it to the fleet, and refuel the carrier all while under attack by the Empire. Oh and KETSU. That was some pretty fancy flying.
9. This is my shocked face.
“What? You abandoned your post?” AP, I like you. You’ve got style. This little exchange plus Chopper’s explanation that AP will be safe with the rebels because he’s Chopper’s friend…Feels!
10. Band of droid brothers.
Chopper and AP-5 not only stealing an Imperial vessel but combining rebel and Imperial intel to both warn the fleet about Yost and find a new location for the rebel base. The sacrifices Chopper and AP-5 make for one another. Brothers in battle, they both fight for the greater good and don’t think twice about their own safety or wellbeing when it comes right down to it.
Those were my moments and, I admit, the list started with 16, so I know I missed some. Tell me what your favorite moments were in the comments and may the Force be with you!
