FALL OF THE REPUBLIC
The leader of the 501st Legion’s Torrent Company, CT-7567 – better known as Rex – was an exemplary clone trooper, brave under fire and dedicated to the men serving under him. As a no-nonsense, by-the-book trooper, Rex had to adjust to the maverick Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and his headstrong Padawan Ahsoka Tano. Despite his lifelong training and discipline, Rex came to admire and sometimes emulate Anakin’s genius for improvisation and his willingness to bend the rules.
Over many campaigns, Rex saw too many clone troopers die fighting the Separatists’ seemingly limitless battle droids. Some of those deaths were unavoidable, but other troopers died because commanders such as the Jedi General Pong Krell saw clones as expendable, little more than living droids bred to serve and die.
Rex believed in the Republic, and he had been trained to believe that a soldier’s highest calling was doing his duty despite long odds and orders he might not understand. But as the war ground up more and more of his men, Rex began to wonder what the point of the conflict was, and what price the clones would ultimately pay.
THE DARK TIMES
Years after the completion of the Clone Wars, Captain Rex along with Commanders Wolffe and Gregor trudged the plains of Seelos hunting for joopa. It was then that they met the Ghost crew, sent by Rex’s old compatriot, Ahsoka Tano. After Kanan hesitated to give his trust, Rex revealed that the three clones removed their chips before Order 66. The crew solicited the clones’ help in finding a potential new base and in turn the clones asked for their assistance catching a joopa. After shooting a menacing probe droid that had been tracking the clones’ walker, Rex proved that his allegiance lied with the Ghost crew.
Discovered as a slave on Tatooine by Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker had the potential to become one of the most powerful Jedi ever, and was believed by some to be the prophesied Chosen One who would bring balance to the Force. A hero of the Clone Wars, Anakin was caring and compassionate, but also had a fear of loss that would prove to be his downfall.
At the time of their introduction, the Republic clone troopers represented the future of galactic warfare. Far superior to battle droids, the clone troopers formed the backbone of the Republic's new military that waged war against the forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. So symbolic were they of the times, the galaxy-wide conflict that saw their debut took its name from their ranks: the Clone Wars.
A natural and practical leader in the clone army, Cody was a good fit for General Kenobi, to whom he was particularly loyal. Cody's keen ability to strategize, combined with his fierce combat style in the heat of battle, earned him the respect of the Jedi, and of his fellow clones as well. He often worked with Captain Rex, with whom he became friends. Cody enjoyed a close relationship with Kenobi, often sharing a tension-busting joke with him during intense moments on the battlefield. When Darth Sidious gave Order 66, however, Cody's loyalty to Kenobi was eclipsed by his clone indoctrination, and he ordered his troops to fire on the Jedi.
A disillusioned clone trooper who saw too many of his fellow brothers die in combat, Cut Lawquane left the service. The deserter attempted to carve a new life for himself as a simple farmer on Saleucami. He wants only to live in peace with his new family, his wife Suu and his children, Jek and Shaeeah. He finds, however, that nowhere is safe from the Clone Wars.
Also known as CT-27-5555, Fives trained with Domino Squad on Kamino before being shipped out to the Rishi Moon listening outpost. He survived the Separatist attack on the station there, and was transferred to the 501st Legion alongside his squadmate and fellow survivor, Echo. Fives and Echo were promoted to ARC trooper status after the defense of Kamino from Separatist invaders. He and Echo were later assigned with the difficult mission of freeing Republic prisoners from the daunting Citadel prison installation on Lola Sayu. He and Echo were later part of a mission to free Republic prisoners from the Separatist prison called the Citadel. Echo fell in battle, leaving Fives as Domino Squad’s sole survivor. Fives accompanied the clone trooper Tup to Kamino for medical testing, where he discovered a terrifying secret about the clones’ origins and ultimate purpose.
