Star Wars Halloween Central 2007
October 30, 2007

Celebrate Halloween in Star Wars style with these fun ideas, downloads and activities!

Spooky Star Wars AudioCast:
Consisting of a fright-filled tour of the galaxy, this 18-minute audio file is downloadable and can be played in a loop, so that there's always a Star Wars scare playing for the young trick-or-treaters coming to your door. Even if you don't plan on playing this for the ghosts, goblins and little Dark Lords who come a-knocking, it's still worth a listen. Slip on some headphones and try to imagine what dangers lurk in the swamps of Dagobah, the dungeons of Jabba's palace, the frigid caverns of Hoth, the windswept wastes of Tatooine, or the fiery landscape of Mustafar. Be prepared to jump and watch out for the ill-tempered General Grievous as he emerges from the din of a droid torture chamber.

Costumes and Crafts:

Spooky Sith-O-Lanterns
No Halloween is complete without a scary pumpkin in the window to greet trick or treaters. Make your own Star Wars pumpkin with these handy printout designs and easy steps. Be sure to ask an adult to help you with the actual carving!

Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker Pop-Up Mask
Star Wars: A Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy author Matthew Reinhart shows you how to make this simple pop-up mask that changes you from Anakin Skywalker to Darth Vader in a flash. Now you can go to the dark side and back again and again!

Retro Star Wars Masks
Need a costume for Halloween but you're just not sure which Star Wars character you'd like to be? Download and print these masks originally from Random House Publishing's 1983 book, The Star Wars Book of Masks.

DIY Ewok Mask
Artist Amy Pronovost shows you how to make and decorate your own one-of-a-kind Ewok Halloween mask. This craft is especially great for little kids!

Revenge of the Halloween Masks
Download and print these Revenge of the Sith masks created especially for starwars.com by Star Wars illustrators and artists.

Make Your Own Halloween Goodie Bags
One of the best things about Halloween besides carving pumpkins and telling spooky ghost stories, is to dress up as your favorite Star Wars character and go trick or treating around the neighborhood. Now you can make a goodie bag to collect your treats that's just as cool as your costume!

Make a Mynock Mobile
Pesky mynocks are parasitic flying creatures with bat-like wings that attach themselves to spaceships with their creepy suction cup-like mouths. Mynocks also like to travel in packs, making them extra spooky. Make your own mynock infestation with this hanging mobile.

Spooky Bands and Celebs:

Skinny Puppy and the Depths of Star Wars
Known for their theatrical concerts, Skinny Puppy -- consisting of Ogre (vocals), cEvin Key, Mark Walk and Justin Bennett -- often use video backdrops spliced from obscure horror films and news footage for truly unique live performances. Ogre chats with Starwars.com about how Star Wars specifically influenced him and why it will always remain one of his favorite films.

Cradle of Filth: Our Kind of Scum and Villainy
Captivating crowds of minions with their dark theatrical stage shows showcasing their symphonic death metal sounds, British band Cradle of Filth would easily find their way into Darth Vader's iPod, if he had one. With albums like The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, Vempire or Dark Faerytales in Phallustein and Damnation and a Day, Cradle of Filth's music isn't likely to be happily hummed by Ewoks.

Simon Pegg: Zombies, Cops and Ewoks?
Three decades before British actor and comedian Simon Pegg was smacking zombies upside the head with a cricket bat (Shaun of the Dead) or chasing down suspects in a not-so-innocent English village (Hot Fuzz), he was, like many kids of the '70s, completely enthralled by bizarre characters inhabiting a galaxy far, far away.

Nine Inch Nails: Beside Vader in Time
Though known for playing bass for such heavy-hitters as Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, and A Perfect Circle, Jeordie White's music endeavors actually began with a band whose main muse was Star Wars. Around the late '80s in Florida, White and his friends formed the thrash metal band Amboog-a-Lard. Their only album, aptly named A New Hope, focused entirely on the themes and characters of the original trilogy.

Drum It Up, Fuzzball: Chris Vrenna
As a Grammy-winning producer, engineer, remixer, songwriter, programmer, and drummer who's worked with everyone from Nine Inch Nails to Gnarls Barkley, Chris Vrenna is proud to add Wookiee percussionist to his impressive musical resume.

Coheed and Cambria: Building a Saga
Coheed and Cambria lead singer and guitarist Claudio Sanchez's appreciation for the Star Wars saga runs so deep, that his band's concept albums -- which are heavy on sci-fi and futuristic themes -- are released out of sequence, intriguing both fans and critics alike.

Slipknot Escapes with Star Wars
When Slipknot lead singer Corey Taylor first laid his eyes on the Dark Lord of the Sith, he was simultaneously introduced to another influential male icon of the '70s.

Faster, More Intense: Anthrax on Star Wars
Keeping the beat for arguably the most well-known speed metal bands of all time, Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante has a special allegiance to the Empire. So much so, that sometimes he can be spotted wearing a Darth Vader mask or a stormtrooper helmet while playing drums on stage.

Lex Luthor Feels For Vader
Darth Vader isn't the only misunderstood villain in pop culture history. In this very galaxy, there was yet another baddie who didn't make life too easy for the good guys either -- Lex Luthor. As Clark Kent's nemesis, Lex Luthor on "Smallville," actor Michael Rosenbaum spoke about his feelings about iconic villains, comparisons between Anakin Skywalker and his character as a young Lex Luthor, and his ultimate appreciation for Star Wars.
