Retro '50s-Style Star Wars Poster at StarWarsShop

As teased in our first story on Russell Walks' retro noir-inspired Star Wars poster, the second genre-style poster is now available at StarWarsShop, this one rendered with a decidedly '50s Saul Bass feel.

"Yes, Saul Bass," says Walks. "He's a favorite of mine, and when I began to think about what a '50s-era Star Wars poster would look like, his work came immediately to mind."

Movie buffs might recognize the signature Saul Bass style in the opening credits of Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest and Psycho, and on posters composed for Vertigo and West Side Story, among many others.

"Since this is part of a series that began last year with the sixties-era piece, I tried to make it a true companion to that work," says Walks. "Same Vader image, 'Far, far away' slogan, and credit order, as well as what I sort of felt the Star Wars logo would look like in a '50s-era font."

Walks two retro-inspired Star Wars posters offer a refreshing take on the traditional style we've come to know and love, giving fans a moment to consider how the films might have been marketed if released in another era. They also make a great way to express one's fandom in a quirky, unexpected way.

"Obviously, most of my work is traditional painted stuff, but it was a lot of fun to break out of that box for this, and I'm looking forward to hearing what the fans think," says Walks. "Heck, if they want to, they can come tell me in person at the San Diego Comic-Con -- I'll be spending the weekend at the Wildstar/Tempest booth (4613) and will have lots of stuff available to sell and sign."

Walks' '50s style Star Wars poster, which measures approximately 24x36 inches, will be available at the San Diego Comic-Con, but for those not going, you can pre-order it now at StarWarsShop. You'll also still find Walks' retro Star Wars film noir version available there as well.
