"It is common Star Wars knowledge that Padmé will become the mother of Luke and Leia. Saying that, today was Natalie Portman's first costume fitting with a prosthetic belly. She is dressed in one of Padmé's numerous costumes, this one being a gown in a light shade of purple quite befitting a Senator and mother to be. As Natalie admires her pregnant self in the mirror, Ewan McGregor comes along and slyly congratulates Natalie on her new arrival. He asks who the father is. Natalie puts her head down, caresses her belly and mutters, 'Jar Jar Binks.'" - Amy Somensky

From the flood of entries, one writer made the judges chuckle and take notice. Amy Somensky's attention to detail, originality and sense of humor set her essay above the rest and became a ticket to the set of Episode III in Sydney, Australia.

Somensky, 24, hails from the state of New Jersey. After graduating from Rutgers University with a B.A. in biology, she began working full time in a local hospital. In addition to her love for everything Star Wars, she is also a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. In her spare time, Somensky enjoys stargazing and studying astronomy. Before she jetted off on her Star Wars adventure Down Under, we asked Somensky a few questions about her winning essay and the her expectations as an upcoming guest writer for the Episode III Set Diary.

How long did it take you to write your essay? Was it hard to come up with an idea or did you feel that the contest wasn't too difficult?

Once I actually started writing, it only took me about ten minutes. I then revised it and proofread it. I would say about thirty minutes in all. I spent about two weeks when I had any spare time thinking about what I would write about and what kind of situation I would create. Being a person with an interest in Star Wars, the contest wasn't that difficult. It was fun.

Why did you choose to go a more humorous, than technical, route with your winning essay entry?

To be honest, I don't know much about the technical side of filmmaking, so that really wasn't an option. I've always been more interested in the story and the actors. After reading the rules I knew what the essay would be judged on, so I wanted to write something that would be funny and original. I could actually see the situation in my essay happening.

What are you most excited to see while on the Episode III set in Sydney?

Where do I begin? Besides the obvious of actually being on the set of the pivotal Star Wars movie, I have always wanted to understand more of how a movie is made. I had vowed not to know too much about Episode III, so I guess that's out the window, but I'll make that sacrifice.

Which actor are you most anxious to see in action?

I would love to spot Natalie Portman. I think she is an amazing actress, and I love it that she has taken time out to go to college. I have always been most interested in the character of Padmé, but I know she has finished her work. I will be ecstatic with anyone.

Which is your favorite Star Wars movie so far in the saga?

The Empire Strikes Back: The whole Cloud City sequence and the duel between Vader and Luke is just awesome. This is also my favorite of all the Star Wars scores.

What do you hope to gain from this experience?

It's just an experience of a lifetime. I have always wanted to go to Australia, so this is my chance, hopefully not my last.

Are you bringing anyone with you?

My mom is going with me. First, I don't know if I could take that long of a flight by myself. Twenty hours is a long time. Second, we travel to a lot of places together, so naturally she would come. She has always wanted to go to Australia as well.
