LucasArts Lead Designer Mike Rosser, Assistant Producer K.C. Coleman and Renegade Squadron Blog Master Chris Baker answer fan questions about
Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron. This is Part 2 of the Q&A.
Will there be smarter A.I. units than in Battlefront II?
Mike Rosser Lead Designer, Rebellion: The A.I. in Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron is very sophisticated. They'll capture command posts and do everything you'd expect a human to do. Be sure to play on Elite difficulty mode if you want a challenge!
It looks like there's no option to choose your character's sex? No female Rebel commandos? I recall there being female Rebel snipers before.
Mike: Because of the memory constraints on the PSP format, we were limited in the number of body and head combinations we could include in the game. Heads like the Mon Calamari, Rodian and Bothan just didn't look right on the female Rebel body, so we reluctantly went with all-male bodies.
Will there be any new Force powers?
Mike: No, we've stuck to the classic Force powers like pull, push, lightning, choke, etc. They're more than enough to terrorize the opposition.
I was just wondering about the cluster grenades. Why do they blow up in the air? What use will that do if the enemy is under the blow?
Mike: The main grenade detonates in the air, then four smaller clusters break off it and fall to the ground, where they explode on impact. The devastation is spread over a larger area, so you can do damage to multiple enemies.
I was curious because you didn't say what control scheme from Battlefront II will be in Renegade Squadron. I used the Retro control scheme, and didn't like the other control schemes.
K.C. Coleman, Assistant Producer, LucasArts: We've included the default control scheme from BF2. However, we think you'll find the control scheme that Rebellion created to be the best of any.
Will there be aircraft on ground battles like in Battlefront I?
K.C.: Other than the snowspeeders on Hoth, there won't be any flyers on ground. We really wanted the flying experience to take place in its natural environment of space. We had to include the snowspeeders on Hoth, though -- I mean, how the heck else are you going to take down the AT-ATs?
Can you play as a Jedi Knight online? If so, do they have a timer?
K.C.: Yup, just like in BF2, you can play as a hero character. And yes, there will be a timer too. Though you can prolong the hero experience by taking out enemies. Look out for the new heroes that we have, too, like IG-88, Kit Fisto, Admiral Ackbar and Asajj Ventress.
In space can you destroy a capital ship's vital systems from inside the ship. Are there rooms that go out of the hangar like in Battlefront II for the consoles?
K.C.: There is area to fight inside of the capital ships, and you can take out their shields from inside on some of the maps. But mainly, you need to destroy the critical systems from space by using crafts like the Y-wing and the TIE bombers.
How many maps will there be in Renegade Squadron? BF2 on PSP cut out some of my favorites, but it had a pretty good number for a portable. Will RS have as many maps as BF2? Will there be more than two space battle maps?
Chris Baker, Renegade Squadron Blog Master, LucasArts: You're definitely getting the most Battlefront maps ever seen on the PSP with Renegade Squadron. I've got the game in front of me right now (jealous?) How about I just list all the maps for you here?

Can you tell me what heroes are returning? And if you can't, can you at least tell me if the Fetts are returning? Both are my favorite characters, and I would hate to see Jango out of the picture.
