Star Wars Galaxies On Ice! Play the Battle of Hoth

A nondescript group of buildings sits on the desolate ice planet Hoth. A power generator, an ion cannon and perhaps a turret or two are all that's readily visible. Upon closer inspection, however, the trenches, pathways and dark inlets are the proverbial tip of the iceberg: all indicators of the underground Echo Base.

Echo Base is extremely well hidden, created by the Rebellion to be a central base of operation. Sadly, it's not hidden enough to avoid the sights of Darth Vader and his Imperial Fleet. The Rebellion knew it had but one hope: hold off the Empire for as long as it could and evacuate the base.

Now in Star Wars Galaxies, it's your turn. Grab a blaster rifle and join your comrades in the great battle of Echo Base. Certainly you already know the outcome; the question is, how well will you play your role? It's a daunting task, especially when you realize how intricate the plan is.

As the Empire lands, it releases its AT-ATs and AT-STs. The invading soldiers race to their mounts, take control of the nearest AT-ST, and target Echo Base. As they do, they realize that their opposition -- the intrepid soldiers of the Rebellion -- is charging at them.

Normal attacks have little power against the AT-ATs. Knowing this, the Rebellion utilizes modified snowspeeders whose size and speed give them a fighting chance. As they head toward the plodding AT-ATs, the battle finally begins.

The AT-STs begin firing upon the approaching ships, knowing they must defend the AT-ATs until they can destroy the generator. Charging along they fire wildly, taking damage both from the snowspeeders as well as troops running along on the ground. If only there was help, perhaps an iconic character or two to join in battle?

Once the generators are destroyed, one of the most powerful wielders of the Force lands inside Echo Base. As Darth Vader himself begins to make his way toward survivors, it's best to stay out of his way. Striding confidently through the inner-workings of the base, he throws aside any Rebel who is foolish enough to cross his path.

Our heroes get pushed further and further into the base, desperately trying to hold off the invasion long enough for survivors to escape. Edging back and losing ground, the troops fight valiantly, but ultimately have to succumb to the might of the Empire.

And then you click your mouse a few times and try your hand at it all over again.
