Kenobi Vs. Ventress: A Clone Wars Grudge Match

With The Clone Wars television series starting this week, as well as the forthcoming The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels for the Wii, it will become apparent everyone in the Star Wars galaxy appears to have a mortal enemy.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is no exception, with his enemy taking the form of Asajj Ventress, who seemingly has interest in little else than striking down our favorite Jedi. While much of their story will be revealed within the game and the series, what little we know of her background sets the foundation for one of the more heated lightsaber-clashes you will experience.

Born on Rattatak, Ventress grew up on a world controlled by warlords. Violence and war were a daily occurrence, and Ventress' parents were among the casualties. A lone Jedi Knight became stranded on the planet and found the orphan. Taking her under his wing, he trained her as his own Padawan, but he died before he could complete her instruction. Skilled with the Force but vulnerable to her emotions, Ventress grew dark -- hunting down and killing every warlord on the planet and installing herself as ruler. This type of action draws attention, as it did from Count Dooku who was looking for allies to join him in the growing war.

Ventress soon became one of Dooku's primary commanders in the Clone Wars, leading many great battles. During her dealings she came in contact with the Jedi Obi-Wan. Unlike the many she had fought before, Obi-Wan was not swayed by her charms, nor did he believe she was evil.

In stark contrast to her dark exterior, he knew Ventress was not a Sith, but rather a Jedi who had gone astray. The more they fought, the more he believed he could turn her back. The more he fought to turn her back, the angrier she became. She blamed all Jedi for abandoning her master and Obi-Wan bore the brunt of that hatred. Because of this, she took every chance to strike down Obi-Wan, only to be rebuffed again and again.

Ventress is heavily featured in both the upcoming television series as well as the Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels video game. Those interested will have a chance to see her in action, or even control her during the battles. Want to try your hand at controlling Ventress--something even the venerable Obi-Wan cannot? Definitely check out the official Clone Wars game site and get ready to see what she's made of.
