Form V: Shien / Djem So

Form V arose alongside Form IV as the Jedi were further pressed into contentious peacekeeping duties in a well-armed galaxy. A more aggressive refinement to the rather passive Form III, Form V built upon the principle of blocking incoming blaster strikes but added an offensive component as well: the reflection of a blaster shot back at the attacker. This discipline became known as Shien

In close combat, the same exercises can be used to counter incoming attacks, transforming parries into counterstrikes with little loss of energy and the addition of raw strength. Form V calls for the user to press the attack, pushing the opponent back and causing them to lose their footing. Darth Vader heavily favored Form V, as it put his cybernetically enhanced strength to good use. Form V's use in strictly melee combat came to be known as Djem So. Form V is also known as the Way of the Krayt Dragon, or the Perseverance Form.

To some Jedi, Form V is too aggressive, since it seeks to overpower a foe. To others more pragmatic, it is a necessity in violent times.
