An Announcement about Star Wars RPGs and Miniature Gaming

Today, Wizards of the Coast announced on their website that will not renew their license to produce Star Wars products for their roleplaying and miniature gaming lines. You can read their announcement here.

Wizards of the Coast has produced a library of Star Wars game books since 2001, as well as hundreds of detailed pre-painted plastic miniatures as part of their official product lines. However, the economic downturn as well as the growth of online gaming factored into their decision to discontinue new development, and their license ends in May of this year. There are several releases still on the horizon from Wizards, such as the Masters of the Force miniatures set and The Unknown Regions game book due out in April.

Lucas Licensing continues to see miniatures, roleplaying games and card games as viable and important elements in its Star Wars licensing program, both in digital form (like the recently launched trading card game within Star Wars Galaxies), and in physical products like figures, books and cards. Keep checking StarWars.com for announcements regarding future products in this area in the coming months.
