Yet, despite the typically big attendance, the event felt like a very calm one. On Thursday, the first day of festivities, with armies of visitors lining the intricate labyrinth of hallways that connect booths together and to the various activity rooms, the energy of the fans could be sensed at every corner - but without the overwhelming feeling of mass that usually accompanies such imposing gatherings. Nobody stepped on anybody else's toes, the noise level was pleasantly low, and everyone took their time moving around the Convention Center. It was clear, however, that everybody knew exactly where they were headed, and that nothing would prevent them from reaching their targets.
Some of the many popular destinations were the areas where Star Wars was on display. In addition to booths manned by Lucasfilm licensees such as Don Post Studios, Dark Horse, Decipher, DK Publishing and Random House/Del Rey, many dealers showcased Star Wars in one form or another, from Episode I posters and trading cards to vintage soundtrack albums and toys, including what looked like the largest collection of Yak Faces on Earth.
Friday, with its many Star Wars events and activities, promised excitement galore.
