X-wings

The original shot of the X-wing squadron had to be broken down to two shots as it was not possible at the time to make one continuous shot with the X-wing models.

The original 35mm Vista Vision negative of the Yavin background was used for reference and mapping the new shot. Five new elements were created to complete the shot, including the starfield, X-wing fighters, Y-wing fighters, the Death Star model and the Yavin model/composite.

The goal was to have one long, continuous shot of the X-wings passing Yavin and heading towards the Death Star.
