Star Wars and General Mills Join Forces
April 08, 2002

General Mills joins the Episode II experience, offering young Star Wars fans a variety of special premiums in their cereal, yogurt and fruit snack lines in time for the film's release this spring.

The most eye-catching addition to the supermarket cereal shelves is a limited edition Star Wars Episode II Cereal. The tasty breakfast treat features sweetened corn puffs and seven different Star Wars marshmallow shapes: clone troopers, red and blue lightsabers, Yoda, R2-D2, the Slave I, and the Jedi starfighter. Boxed in collectors edition holographic packaging (in two varieties), Episode II Cereal box-backs sport a special saga-spanning Star Wars board game.

Look inside specially marked packages of Honey Nut Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Reese's Puffs and Cocoa Puffs for collectible light-up lightsaber pens. There are five pens in all, styled after new and classic Star Wars characters: Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Mace Windu and Count Dooku.

In marked boxes of Corn Chex and Rice Chex, kids can look for Star Wars temporary tattoos. There are four sets in total, featuring characters from the light and dark side of the Force. The packaging includes a Clone Crunch snack mix recipe, and a mail-in offer for Star Wars-themed cereal bowl and cup sets.

Kids who like their yogurt on the go can look forward to 16 special Go-GURT glow-in-the-dark lightsaber tubes. Each package of Star Wars Edition Go-GURT will have one of six front panels with lightsaber-wielding characters from Episode II, and one of four back panels featuring Jedi and Sith characters.

On the fruit snacks front, General Mills will produce limited edition Jedi Fruit Rolls, in Jedi Berry-Blast flavor, featuring six lenticular Star Wars sticker cards to collect. Specially marked packs of Fruit by the Foot and Fruit Roll-Ups available at membership wholesale and warehouse clubs will include one of four exclusive metal backpack tags, and the packaging will feature Star Wars trivia games or bookmark
