Trade Federation landing ship![]()
![]() From the MoviesFacilitating the illegal Trade Federation invasion of Naboo were fleets of terrifying landing ships that filled the skies of the peaceful world. With its huge wingspan and imposing boot-shaped loading ramp, the Trade Federation landing ship is a daunting sight. Once the immense vessels set down on the outlying forests and swamps of Naboo, they disgorged hundreds of AATs, MTTs, troop transports and battle droids into the wilderness. From the Expanded UniverseHaor Chall Engineering designed the bizarre-looking craft with characteristic Trade Federation efficiency. The specially built C-9979 transport ship can hold heavy armor and legions of troops throughout the habitable volume contained within its hull. The C-9979's immense wings are removable for ease of storage and docking. When deployed, powerful tensor field generators bind the wings to the craft, and strengthen the vessel's overall structural integrity. Large repulsorlifts keep the C-9979 from sagging under its own weight. When in an atmosphere, the C-9979 can attain a speed of about 590 kilometers per hour. It carries a total of 28 troop carriers, 114 AATs, and 11 MTTs and requires a crew of 88 droids. Two pairs of wing-tip lasers and four turret-mounted cannons comprise its armaments. Behind the ScenesEarly design concepts for the landing ship included dirigible-like transports that ejected carried craft from cocoon-like sockets. Doug Chiang's final designs were based on a dragonfly. George Lucas liked the similarities of this design to an old biplane, and approved this direction. Keywords: Databank - The Clone Wars, Databank - Episode I, Databank - Episode III Filed under: Vault, Starship
