Naboo Royal (Queen's) Starship![]()
![]() From the MoviesThe Naboo Royal Starship boasts a strikingly beautiful design that embodies the craftsmanship that prevailed in the peaceful years of the Republic. The polished, streamlined J-type 327 Nubian vessel lacks any offensive weaponry, but does feature strong shields and a competent hyperdrive.During the Trade Federation invasion of Naboo, Queen Amidala and her retinue escaped aboard the Royal Starship. Piloted by Ric Oli?, the gleaming vessel narrowly avoided the Trade Federation blockade. It sustained damage to both its shield generator and hyperdrive, though the former was repaired by the ship's loyal contingent of astromech droids. With a leaking hyperdrive, the ship limped to Tatooine, where a replacement T-14 hyperdrive generator was procured. From the Expanded UniverseDesigned around technology imported from Nubia and elsewhere, the Royal Starship's unique spaceframe was crafted at Theed. The purely decorative gleaming finish is royal chromium, a substance usually reserved only for vessels serving Naboo's monarch. The mirrored surface is hand-polished and crafted by fine artisans, not by automatons or factory equipment. The ship's interior is quite spacious. From fore to aft, the vessel contains royal quarters, a forward hold, a main hold with tech station, the raised cockpit (accessible through turbolift) and the Royal Throne Room where Queen Amidala sits. As per Naboo tradition, the reigning monarch personally names the Royal vessel. As of the Battle of Naboo, mere months into Queen Amidala's term, she had not yet chosen an official name for her most well-known conveyance. Behind the ScenesEarly designs for the Queen's ship included a sleek space yacht that was powered by a huge solar sail. When George Lucas instead opted for a sleek, chrome look, Design Director Doug Chiang turned to 1950s-style automobile hood ornaments for inspiration. Keywords: Databank - Episode I Filed under: Vault, Starship
